I'm terrible at coming up with names.
Silk, sold as a half-moon and with too much tail to flare even if he wasn't too good-natured to do more than pose, got stuck forever with his temporary 'working name' because I could never think of anything good enough for him and doubt I ever could.
He was the first male betta I ever absolutely had to have, and was the first I ever bought, may he live forever.
May they all...
Confetti, a crowntail who had no membrane on his swim fins when I got him and could only wriggle on his belly and barely struggle to the surface at all, so that I had to fit an upturned pail in his tank for him to rest on while his fins repaired and he gradually learnt to swim like a fish, acquired his name because he has 'curly' confetti-like rays.
He was the second male betta I ever bought.
Cygnet, who I call a combtail although he's probably marginal crowntail, (what do I know?) but has very long, flowing, tissue-fine fins, was yellow when I got him, a colour I don't actually like, went through shades of orangey-pinky (not my favorite) tones, began developing a gorgeous green irridescence much to my delight - love green bettas - but only a bit on the fins near the body and it hasn't spread.
He's the only betta I've ever seen whose colours clash.
Still beautiful to 'mum', of course.
And 'Ugly Duckling' would have been rude...
He's the youngest, a mere whipper snapper and I think I've only had him about a year..
Haven't named the betta rutilans or any of the tussyae, and won't get into loved and lost bettas - no more 'rescues' for me.
I don't know how so many people comeup with such nice names for so many fish...
