i find that half seat really works the abs, i can feel how they are sore in the morning. somehow half seat works my legs too because about half way through they ride they started to get ride the started to get tired and by the end i i was fine cantering half seat, but going to a  trot still in half seat really hurt my legs  
 
annnnd its impossible to "just sit there"

I used to ride when I was a young girl but I've long since forgotten it all, sadly.  The only time I've tried riding a horse since was in New Zealand eight years ago, just a gentle guided walk through Lord of the Rings countryside.  My horse was magnificent, a black stallion, he actually starred in the films as a black rider's steed.  I've got photos of myself sat on his back like a sack of potatoes you would cringe if you saw it.
