annnnnnddd......last time i rode i went 27mph and i said that i would go faster next time.....
 
31 MPH TODAY!!!!  

 and that was uphill... time to go on flat land and do a dead gallop

not a car

next time your going that fast in a car think about going that fast on a horse.. or if people could run that fast! there is nothing like going form a walk to a gallop in a second

 

 the power... the pure strength.... the speed.... the horse tripping in a ditch and nearly doing a face plant and me ending up on the neck.... the horse stepping in a deep rabbit hole while walking and not breaking a leg....the fun of the ride....the fun of racing against your friend....the pointlessness of the majority of this post....

Not yet. He is taking dry food (they are reportedly a bit fussy when it comes to flake/pellet/granule food), so that's a good sign. She appears to have calmed down a bit, so I might start them on some live food, get them a bit frisky, and hopefully I'll have a pleasant surprise when I come home from my hols.
 
Como, how do you accurately measure the speed of a horse? Is it just as simple as you timing how long it takes to travel along a known distance?

Just got back from Birdworld with the kids.  They had a small aquarium section ('Aquaworld' or some such) which I was looking forward to.  It wasn't great, mostly full of fish you can see for free at an LFS!

 
They had one big red-tailed catfish in the pacu tank though, biggest one I've seen although I'm sure they can get bigger.  That's my 6yo's hand in the foreground for perspective.

When I was younger, I used to go there regularly - they had, and possibly still do, a Moluccan Cockatoo (aka Salmon Crested) which was as tame as anything, and really loved it's head being scratched. THe keepers weren't too keen on me doing it though, I was warned about it several times.
 
I agree that the aquarium section is utter pants though. You can hardly see the crocodiles in the crocodile section.

It was our first time there, I was planning to set aside up to an hour to have a good look around the aquarium, we were out in around 10 minutes!  We did have a good time in the bird park though.
