Large Empty Tank And Thinking Of Oscars.....

If you want 3 oscars, how about buying 3 already living together and re-home Keith first. 2 oscars already living with other oscars is no guarantee they will accept Keith or Keith accept them. Tinker & Tailor have always been together and although smaller than Tigger were both were going for Tigger together. I had trained both of them to go to one corner for when I was cleaning the tank and I had to keep making them go into their corner to leave Tigger alone. I can see the exact same happening for you if you put in 2 oscars that have lived together in with Keith, I am 99.9% sure the 2 will not accept Keith or he them. I could be wrong, I was sure Duce would be fine with the rottie, diadema and keith, but trying to get adult fish to get along is massive trial and error and some fish can just be a problem completely trying to find a suitable tank mate. Even going down the line of scrapping the whole tank and starting again with juvenile fish might work till some hit a certain size, I will use Harry as an example (although he has to be the worlds meanest naughites fish  ) Minxy must have tried almost every fish going with Harry but as soon as they get around the size of Harry he turns into Mr Hyde!

Personally I would sell the Texas as they have not worked out, I feel guilty on that part I was sure Duce would be ok, but cichlids being what they are he proved me wrong. Sell the gold and leave Keith, the diadema, the rottie and JD see how that works :good:

 Keith is staying put there is no way i would sell him......

ive had a call about the texas and a guy is very interested in them even though i told him what they are like... he already has 3 so maybe they will be more suited amongst other texas.....
i am collecting another gold sev at the weekend to try with the rottie and if it works then ill rehome the current gold sev. the JD is recovering from a day with Duce in a 180 at the minute so im trying to get him back on his feet :/ or fins..... the 2 oscars are about 8-9 inch, i think. so will be a bit smaller than Keith but as you say its hit and miss as i have been finding out the hard way. the only thing stopping me is the 130 mile round trip to get them...... they have lived with several other oscars in the same tank without any issues apparently so like you say its all down to Keith....
i honestly dont know what fish to try next. i really liked the Uarus at wharf but they were about £35 each for bigger ones but can a price be put on a peacefull tank
ill keep looking and see what else is about before jumping in :good:

I have a longing for some urau, twice now I have missed out on a pair for one reason or another. I would have smaller ones and grow them on if I had the tank space

would a pike cichlid work?

oddball express have a good selection in at the minute......

Cant help you on a pike cichlid, never kept them or even researched them. I would just love a trip to oddball express but with someone elses credit card

Depends on the type. They range from a few inch to over a foot long. If you went for something fairly mild and that only got 6-8" i dont see why they wouldnt because theres no really small fish in the tank and nothing to eat a fish of that size.

im also tempted with the Cichlasoma ornatum that they have in at the minute  small but i can grow them up and by then my tank WILL be at peace

Ive never heard if any of them so cant really help.

i think we can forget the last one but the Crenicichla atabapo looks great on google  the thing is with these rare fish is that you cant find any info on them

Ive been doing some reading on the Crenicichla atabapo and from what ive seen they get to 14" so might be a touch on the big side but could work.

The orange pike cichlids get to about 12" from what ive found.

tempting....

The orange pikes are very nasty I believe most of those on the lists are nasty ones but shouldnt be too much of a problem for Keith

The pikes you want for a community tank is crenicichla saxatilis - there are a number of species that are refered to as Saxatilis types this is kind of like Geophagus Surinimensis being an umbrella for a few species but most in this group have spangling down their side and most get to between 7-10 inches.
