Large Empty Tank And Thinking Of Oscars.....

He seems to have settled ok.
yeah he is doing fine. the pics dont really show his colours off that well as the lighting in the tank is quite dim. he looks amazing in the flesh  a great addition to the tank :good:

They are utterly gorgous arnt they

You just need a dopy pleco like my Jethro

You lucky person you :grr: that is turning out to be quite the stocking, that tex is um
How do you manage to keep finding big specimens?
By the way chocolates are stunnin, hehe,
i am extremely happy with the tank and its stocking and to be honest i have stumbled accross most of these fish by accident.... i went to wharf to get some bushfish and saw the oscar (keith) and had to have him so i reserved him. then i went to an lfs that i normally would stay clear of and spotted the diadema and again reserved it. the same applies with the rotkeil it was another lfs that i dont normally go to but popped in while driving past in my bin truck just for a look! the gold sev was spotted at an lfs i went to just for a new FX5 hose, when i asked about it they said they were looking after it for someone whos tank had cracked but it had been 3 months and they had not heard anything so £10 later the sev was mine :hyper: the texas was kindly supplied by star4 after talking to her about them, it was getting picked on a bit so it was only right that it came to my house ;) 1 jag cat was at wharf when i went to collect keith and the other was bought from an old guy that replied to an ad i placed on AQ who let me have it for £15.

i also think that i have been very lucky with aggression levels and its only the gold sev and rotkeil sev that have a little stand off now and then. although the tank is still young

i still havnt seen a chocolate in the flesh yet and am looking forward to the day i do. who knows if its as nice as people keep saying then 1 might come home with me ;)

matt. there was a load of chocolotes in ocean commotion when i was in there last. they were babies mind

my gold sev seems to be getting too big for his boots  i knew it was too good to be true that the tank was peacefull

should i leave it a while to settle or should i think about taking him out?

the others are fine with just the odd stand off its just the gold sev that doesnt like the rotkeil, diadema or texas..... totally scared of Keith though

Give it a few weeks - my rule most of the time is 2 weeks unless it is really bad in which case I take out the aggressor - though that said Im avoiding any risks now.

What sort of aggression is it? is the gold just chasing and harrassing the others? This is just annoying behavior there are enough fish in the tank for this to be spread amongst the others without causing too much stress. This sort or aggression you can leave him in the tank if you want to keep him. Unless he is picking on one particular fish, this will cause this fish to possibly stop eating and become stressed. If that is the case re-home the gold.

Chasing and nipping fins or biting is more of a nuisance to the other fish and does tend to starts stressing them out more if he is biting then re-home again.

Full on head to head with the other fish trying to entice lip locking I would re-home the gold asap, if he/she tried to go head to head with Duce or the diadema the sev will be injured.

Watching Harry annoy Tinker & Tailor when they were together it takes an awful lot of niggling to make an oscar have a go back (Saying that Tinker & Tailor are very placid oscars) The sev probably wouldnt even entertain the idea of having a go at Keith yet.

A guy on fishlore, based in Brighton, has recently acquired a beatiful Burmese Peppered Firetail Botia from a local fish store. Made me think of your setup!

As I wrote in their thread, I'm a little dubious about the water requirements, in that moderate flow and 25-30C don't appear to go hand in hand. The SF profile looks much more realistic on this front, suggesting 22-26C.

Seriously gorgeous fish in my opinion!
