Large Empty Tank And Thinking Of Oscars.....

Play it safe, its not as if you do not have other fish to entertain you and Wharf have told you they will hold your centrepiece Oscar for another week.

Not sure why this has only just dawned on me, but aren't you going to need to add all other planned fish for the tank before introducing the Oscar, going in an order from most peaceful to likely most aggressive?

not sure

the fish i have ready to go in are -

1 x royal pleco
1 x oscar
1 x SAE
1 x BGK
2 x sun catfish

so there is nothing really aggressive in there unless the oscar is a brute but from what ive seen of him and been told hes quite chilled. but you never know until it goes in. i was going to add a small amount of mature media from another tank and put the SAE sun cats and BGK in over the weekend just to get them in and just to have fish in there for a while before adding the newly cycled media and oscar. nome of the fish i was going to add before have massive bioloads so i thought it would be ok for a few days or a week in that amount of water especially with a handfull of mature media.

and your right i will play it safe but mark got me going...........

the rest of the fish will need growing up before adding them so they dont become lunch for the oscar. the fish im risking with him are all quite fast so im going to chance it

ties in well the discus isnt ready to be picked up till next week

If your cycling is going well i would get the SAEs and BGK in with some filter media and get them settled. As was mentioned its an Oscar going in to a large domain that he could see rightgfully as his own. If its a big Oscar which i've been led to believe it is this is entirely plausable and he may not like anyone entering "his" space. All depends on this fellas temperament.

If it were me i'd get existing tank mates that you have to go in and get them settled, then get the Oscar next saturday as they've said they will hold him for you one more week.

Patience is a virtue, come on you know the game :) If it goes horribly wrong you'll be kicking yourself.

Just seen this http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail51_192777.php there the ones your after right?

they are the ones and we have sourced them that size but matt wants one bigger to go in with the oscar

this is exactly what i have just done. the SAE and BGK are now in the tank..... I HAVE FISH IN THE TANK!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper:

i know the game and was getting excited and am going to wait until next weekend

im after a bigger L114 as i dont want to see it eaten by the oscar. i can get a 2 inch and a 4 inch L114 but think bigger is safer

the L114 that is in Morcambe bay might just be getable.... the treasurer of the catfish society who owns the fish has a mate going to a meet in novenber and the fish can be bought back to Peterborough which is about 1.5 hours away from me instead of about 4 :hyper:
so i may have found the L114 ive been looking for and at a very decent price too :good:

Happy for you mate if all that goes through according to plan :) Should be good. I'm looking forward to the gradual influx of images of your tank with fish in :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Oscar in this tank, its going to look fab i'm sure!

cheers james. i cant wait to stock it. ive just been to check on the SAE and the BGK and after about 5 minutes of looking i found then and they seem fine. tank is still very very empty though  but its a start!

the wood is giving off lots of tannins too which is what i wanted :good:

still need to fix a background of some kind. think im going with just a plain blue one.

i have a mate that wants to get rid of his RTBS he has kept for 2 or 3 years in a 2ft tank  the shark is now currently about 5-6 inches and in great health. he doesnt want to give it away to lfs and i said i would see if anyone on here wanted it for a small price. but then i thought it might look nice in my tank  would it be suitable with my stocking? my only concern was the SAE and the sun cats. the RTBS is currently living with a few cardinal tetras, a few silvertip tetras and a couple of black phantom tetras also what i thibk is a 4 inch chinese algae eater

would it be a bad idea to put the fish in my tank?

if so does anyone want it?

my planned stocking, just as a reminder

2 x sun catfish
1 x SAE
1 x BGK
1 x oscar
1 x L114
1 x L190
5 x bushfish/climbing perch
1 x rotkeil severum

I would say have the RTBS I have one in with my Texas, its huge and a great aggression diffuser, the only thing I am not sure if it will get on with the sae.

I'm 15 mins from Peterborough if the fish needs a home for the night. Don't mind putting it up in one of my tanks if needs be. I could potentially drop it off for you since I'm over Leicester way on a weekly basis pretty much?
