Kari's First Marine Tank Journal

The clowns won't really be that aggressive unless they are mostly grown and have established a territory.

Another thing to consider is how easy it is to get the fish you want. Depending on where you are you may be able to get certain things at certain times of the year. Maybe with the goby?? Anyway worth checking in to. My lfs never gets b/w clowns in so I'd have to special order through them or buy online.

I'd hold off on coral for a month or two at least.

Thanks for all the replies guys :good: Bagu is right, only 58ltr at the moment, I would love a pair of clowns one day but they will have to wait for the larger tank.

My little LFS has a lovely but small collection of marine fishies, its there that I fell for the little green clown goby, so I will be off there tomorrow to choose my first fish, I will also buy 2 snails, depending on what they have in stock as i'm getting a bit over run with various forms of algae, the rest of the CUC will wait for a few more weeks.

Thanks for the advice on the corals, I will hold off for a couple more weeks for those.

I also have a confession to make, I have already added life to my reef :( not planned, but hubby, thinking he was doing something lovely, ordered me some anenomes from ebay, he read the blurb & thought brilliant as it says ideal for a nano tank, he told me about them the next day & I looked them up, looks like they are from english waters & are probably not going to last in the tank.

I found a thread about them over on UR & some people have had success, others not, but advised to try them, so I have added 2, the others are in a holding tank until I decide what to do with them, I will keep a close eye on them & any problems they will be removed. I really hope they survive as they are lovely, have told hubby next time to give me the money lol

I may be wrong here, but if an anemome dies in your tank it could lead to massive problems, I have heard of mature tanks packed full of fish and coral to be completly wiped out by such an event. good luck

Do you think I should take them out? I dont want to risk anything nasty happening.

I would wait and see what more people say on here first :good: I would say yes, take them out, but what would you do with them? got any pic's.

What kind of anenome are they?

The other 2 are in a small holding tank, unheated with a little live rock & a nano powerhead, so they could go in with those for now.

Atleast he is spending money on it!
:p

YF

lol yeah, seems a shame to discourage him

They are all now in the holding tank, I know i'd do nothing but worry about them killing off my tank inhabitants, so they are in the little tank for now, not looking very happy, will see if I can get any info about where they were collected from, then maybe we can put them back.

Dont worry, i'm sure it was the right thing to do, especially if I go for a clown fish, I read that they may be hurt by these nems, so its best I took them out, i'd rather start off adding things that I choose anyway, hubs wasnt too offended, but I have written him a wish list to put in his organiser now, so he knows what I want lol.

So do you know what kind they are yet. I think your tank is to small to house any regular nems that are commonly seen in the hobby. I'm curious as to what these are. If it's from english waters it's probably not a tropical nem right?

I will have to look it up, but thankfully they have now been rehomed :good:

I now have my first fishies  Lookie at the pretty Nemo's

Full tank shot: Trying to decide whether to clean the back off or not, I like it like this, it looks more natural, but then I think it looks grubby & I should clean it?

I was up for most of the night with my little one again & spent the time sat with him reading through the Nano Reef handbook, from the info in there I found I could have a pair of clowns in this tank, so this morning I went shopping.

I also brough 2 dwarf blue legged hermits & 2 turbo snails, they kindly gave me 2 small frags as well, you can see the toadstool in the piccie & there is also a little group of blue star polyps (I think this is what they are) both have opened up lovely this evening.

So my tank is now looking lovely & full of life. The clown fish are beautiful, my main worry with marine fish was that they wouldnt eat, but these two are little greedy pigs! No worries there anymore.

My plan is to now leave the tank alone for a few weeks, testing every other day just to make sure all is well. In a couple of weeks I will look at adding a shrimp & maybe a couple more snails, then after that a few more corals each month & eventually one more little fish, probably the green clown goby.

I love my little tank :good:

Upgrading my larger tank is not going to happen very fast as I have decided to save up for the metal halide lights, so until Ihave that money saved, that tank will stay as it is

congrats!

lovely shots aswell! and grats on the free frags :)

looking nice ;D
