i dropped temp a little and will etst again later

Did it drop from 4ppm to zero ppm on day 2? Or is that what you're hoping?

Probably largest number of people see it finally drop to zero after a few days but within the first week. Somewhat fewer but still a lot of people seem to wait 2 weeks. A much smaller number need 3 weeks and a couple have reported 4 weeks. This is just for the very first drop to zero.

:good: The long and painful wait to drop 4ppm on day 2 :good:
Take this time to think about what you really want to do with the tank. After all, you have at least 4 weeks to think about this. Ask questions on which fish are best, maybe do some "aqua-scaping." Get familiar with all your equipment and sit back and let the cycle proceed, with the thought in mind you are doing the right thing, fishless cycling that is!

day 3 it looks to be going down :hyper:

its really hard to tell with these api cards but it is definately going down

Don't kid yourself too much about the ammonia dropping. I would be surprised if it moves much at all for at least a week. Some people do not see any drop at all for up to two weeks.

Yes, nitrite dose take longer. For every 1 ppm of ammonia processed it goes to 2.7 ppm of nitrite, and then 3.6 ppm of nitrate.

Down to 0ppm of ammonia so added some more but the nitrite levels are high
This is nice to see the ammonia down so soon.

If you want, you can dose just up to 3 ppm of ammonia for now until your nitrite starts to drop down. This just helps keep the nitrite level from rising too high. Once the nitrite starts to come down to a readable level then increase the ammonia back up to 5 ppm.

i have got some stuff that hold nitrtate levels from going so high it takes ages for it to com back down and also have cleaned my other tanks filter out today and basicly squeezed all the dirt rite next to my new filter so maybe some good will have come out of it.

im really pleased with the progress today.

i went to this place today and they tried to sell me 20 malawis with a bottle of safe start and said trust me if you take them and this they will be fine. YER RIGHT!!

I dont know how some places can sell fish when they dont care about them at all.

I think im buying an external filter tomorrow to add to the tank is this a good idea or am i just best to leave it to the internal?

i think it may slow the cycling down having 2 filters to build bacteria up in

You mean nitrite? I would not put any chemicals such as that in the water. The only chemical you should be adding is a water conditioner, that is it.

What is your GPH (gallons per hour) of your filter, and what is your tank size in U.S. Gallons?
