Johns 450ltr (110 Gals) Journal

I thought I would have a play on Photoshop, John. I have tried to saturate the colours a little to disguise some of the over exposure, but the Rotala macrandra in the full tank shot was too washed out. This happens to me a lot if I use the tank lights. I have also tried to sharpen up the focus a little as well, which helped to highlight the pearling in the full tank shot. Hope you don`t mind.

Cheers, Dave.

i use the same camera as you john, i set the shutter speed at roughly 1/60s, use an ISO of 200 (400 max, any higher and the pictures turn out grainy)
make sure you set the white balance to fluorescent also. i just use the standard lens that comes with the camera (18mm-55mm)
a tripod helps to reduce blur, or if you dont have one, balance the camera on something studry like a table or some books
hope this helps
JC :good:

Hi JC, thanks for the tips i have it set on fluorescent as o was advised to earlier in this journal, do you find the manual hard work to read or am i just being lazy, regards john

Hi John. That looks beautiful, i wish mine would huppy up and settle down i have hair algae and BGA playing havoc with my hairgrass and HC at the moment, yours looks very clean even though you admit to some slight hair algae growth. Cracking tank mate i wouldn't change a thing!

And a Happy Christmas to you and the wife.

it does take a bit of getting used to, but you do get a feel for it eventually. i usually take several pics with different settings until i get it right. its just a case of playing with the shutter speed, ISO and aperture until you find a good combination

Hi JC, yes i think your right i just need to get a feel for it , my main problem is finding time to fit all my hobbys in i supposed to be semi retired and this part time job of mine is taking up more time than i want it to, merry xmas regards john.

This is absolutley stunning John!

Excellent work, one of my favourite tanks on here now.

I like the way your moss has grown, gives good shape.

Hi Jimboo, happy new year mate, thanks for the comments i notice your setup is coming along very nicely, i like the the beach type area i think its a great idea the corys must love all that sand to sift through regards john.

Hi John,
I have just read through the whole journal (again) and it is truly stunning. It is a real shame however that the earlier photos have gone from the thread.

With my 180L set-up I will be starting in the summer I hope to base it on something like your tank, with the gorgeous wood and java moss covering it. How long did it take to attach and bush out? How did you attach it to the wood?

It is amazing.

I have to agree you could do with a centrepiece fish.

Altum Angels would be perfect.

Any brightly coloured Discus I feel wouldn't look to good, Brown Discus would be good though.

I do think Altums would be great.

Hi Lisa, thanks a lot for the nice comments, the java moss was attatched with fishing line if you go with this method use some thats not too thin (it might damage the moss when wrapped around) and use something about 0.12mm to 0.16mm if you need some line i could send you some i work in fishing tackle shop part time just pm me your address no probs, as for the time it takes to grow what happened with mine was it turned brown which i thought it had died ( this is normal) then once new growth started to show it really went well, regards john

Hi Luke, i have actually changed my mine about adding the discus or anything larger for the time being, i have infact added 6 corydorus strebai, the pros and cons of discus and high temps in a planted tank was too risky after i have spent so much money on plants, even though the books say this plant or that plant will be ok at said higher temp i have it on good authority that this is not always the case and some plants will melt and die so i have given up this idea for now, as for the altums i agree with you altum angels are gorgeous fish but i dont think my cardinals would like being hunted for food, kind regards john.
