Jimbooo's Jungle Journal 2 (rio 180 - 40g)

Awesome aquariums, i have a question regarding the co2. How do you keep the surface aggitation at a minimal and preventing film or debris from building on the surface? Also, was the java fern that large when you bought it?

It never fails to amaze me how much pearly you get of a java fern! I would never thought it possible, even with it being Georges ex-plant! Looking great mate :) what you plans now you've got it to this stage I cant really see anything much that needs changing!

BTW are PFK gonna send you some of the pics they took, digital copies I mean? would be good to get some so you can post on here and also just to have some 'professional' ones in the collection? Not that Im saying your pics are bad! Hell no! But would be cool, would be a nice momento over and above the PFK article.

Sam

i asked for some copies, they dont usually but he's going to see what he can do. fingers crossed hey. it would be nice to have a momento.

Very nice James.

What bubble rate are you running in the 180?

hi mate, 1 bubble per second but 2 on the day of the visit just to make sure it was looking its best.

er i dont know really it just doesn't form a film i think the constant co2 prevents any algae type film appearing but i've never really sufferred with it so cant really put my finger on the reason sorry.

and yes it was that size when i bought it. it was gf225's and i only bought it a few weeks ago. i think it'a about 3 1/2 yrs old (correct me if i'm wrong george).

thanks for all the kind comments people, lovely to hear as always.

James

:kewlpics: Well done, it looks incredible :good: Your tanks are an inspiration, gorgeous. I just love your Sterbai's playing in the glosso.

Just a quick suggestion, looking at your pics coul you not turn the tank 90 degrees? Or is this one of those 'I just need another 2cm' situations?

You'd be able to see it better then? Without having to look through the gaps in the railings? Or remove the railings complete? Or is there a safety issue with not having the railings there?

Just my thoughts :)

Sam

lol, nice idea mate but not a chance. the front glass is about 10 inches from the railing and the tank is as far back as it will go. i'd need about another 50cm to do that. plus there is a wall just to the left anyway so i'd still have to take a full tank shot from 3 foot away. 1 bed flat, what can i say.

full furnished 1 bed flat that i'm renting more to the point so i cant even paint a wall let alone start sawing up the railing.

just about to get my first mortgage and moving in the next 10 weeks or so. the new house has the "perfect spot" for it in the living room so i should be able to get much better pics then.

on that point apparently the rekord60 isn't coming with us according to the boss lol. still working on that but you may see it in the for sale section soon if your interested.

ideally i want just a rio400 in the new place for one big momma of a planted tank but obviously with all the costs of buying a house and furnishing it the rio180 will be set up there first for the initial 3 months of so until funds permit the upgrade.

sorry, lots of rambling there you only asked about the railing lol.

Haha, thats cool, I thought if you had the space you'd probably have put it round the other way! Oh new house that'll be cool! and a planted rio400 would be totally crazy! you could have millions of plants in that! But I know the costs with buying a house, did it myself last year, so many things that you just never even considered!

tell me about it, i've got £1500 worth of "admin" stuff to pay for today. thats purely surveys, booking fees, search fees, conveyancing etc..

just what i need.

1 bubble per sec? Is that 24/7? What CO2 level are you testing?

Are you sure on the Rio 400? Don't you fancy a change from having that big black monster in the corner (filter) and black silicon - so distracting IMHO.

With the cash for a Rio you could buy an all glass 5x2x2 or similar, big external, overtank luminaire (or conventional hood with DIY'd lighting) etc. I figured your ability now deserves progression from the "safety" of an all-in-one aquarium kit to the next step. As you like your cars - a bit like building a high quality car rather than modding an average new one.

Just a thought mate.

testing? come on george you know me. the plants are pearling and the fish are alive does that help?

like you i turn it off at night, 1 bubble/sec during the day. why do you ask, does that seem high or low to you?

as to the tank i actually agree with you. i haven't even looked at any tanks yet for fear of getting carried away. when i compare prices i'll see what else i can get. there is no real reason to go for juwel, just almost a default decision as i know there good (millions would disagree but :p ) i have seen some pretty tasty aqua one tanks but they all seem a bit square, too tall and not long enough. a 5x2x2 would be ideal. dont panic, no decisions made yet, were a way off still what with the move and stuff. i'll pester you closer to the time to help me decide.

thanks for your interest mate, hows the weather over there? beautiful day here, blazing sunshine. lol :fun:

Wow, blazing sunshine! That's like an event up there right? :fun:

Just kidding, the UK has delightful weather.

As always, great tank pictures. I hate my 10g now, hair algae, yuck.

just for you george, i dusted off the PH kit last night. PH7, KH13 so i make that 39ppm co2. it's so hard to tell though. if my ph was 7.4 (very hard to tell between the two using the tetra test kit (haven't ordered the one from the link you sent me yet) then my co2 would be 16ppm. a massive difference with such a small change in ph obviously due to my rock hard water at KH13.

so it's somewhere between 16 and 39, fantastic hey. ohh the accuracy lol

ha ha i wasn't expecting a comment in the thread after pointing you to it. that's dragged it out of the archives anyway.

thanks for the comment, it's kept me busy on those rubbish TV evenings (and weekends/bank holidays and er any other time i'm not at work)

if you need help with your 240 just pm me. i'd be glad to help.

Hi Everyone,

Hope your all well

Jimbooo
