Jack's Marine Adventure!

Looking good. Shrimpy must have been hungry  That is good news, FWD's are highly stressful to fish and can cause secondary infections. They are on "old school" approach that is still used due to the results they bring, but if done poorly they can kill the specimen under treatment, either directly or indirectly  Any bacterial infections should not occur if water quality is good :good:

On a side note (I'm sure I'll get killed for saying this) I never buffer pH or KH in a FWD. I find neat RO to be more effective, and the Mineral loading difference is what makes the treatment work. It puts parasites into osmotic shock, purely due to their small body size, such that they fall off the fish before that in turn puts the fish into osmotic shock... Not buffering make the treatment take effect quicker, so the fish spends less time in the dip and gets back to the tank faster. It will make things go from OK to seriously bad for the fish faster though, so if you are new to FWD'a and don't know the warning signs, you are best sticking to buffering stuff to keep fish behaviour changes and the rate at which the fish goes into osmotic shock relatively slow. This in turn reduces the effectiveness of the treatment though...

Anyhow, here is hoping things go well from now on

All the best
Rabbut

That makes very good sense actually Rabbut, although as you say for a beginner it may not be the best option as they are unlikely to see or forsee the effects on the fish quickly enough.

I think the first couple of times I have to do it (if ever) I will stick to buffering but will bear what you said in mind.

As a side note, if you were for instance doing a freshwater dip on a bubble coral to rid the coral of flatworms, would you buffer the pH then or would you still use neat RO??

I envy you tina! that flasher

i saw one the other day for £20 hes at about an inch, i may buy him but i would rather have the dottyback than a wrasse, the clowns will be the penultimate pair of fish that go in, so for now im saving for a dwarf angel (looking at a fireball or a coral beauty) should I add the angel after the clowns?

ive ordered my first coral from ebay...A 2 inch clavularia frag which was £8.95 +£7 postage, theyre selling 1 inch frags of this at my LFS for £25

i dont think im ever going to buy a coral from maidenhead, maybe only a xenia because they dont ship very well due to their fast metabolism.

I have just come back from my furthest LFS (20 miles) i biked it with my mate whom also loves marine and has a tank and i have reserved the following:
green clown goby
bangaii cardinal
fireball angel (i think bigC has one)
coral beauty angel

I will be updating less whilst my latop gets fixed

and also, i caught the cleaner shrimp pinning down the goby today  its a shame its on the heater as i cant get a decent pic :(

I tell you what Truck, it has been out a lot more this evening and his colour is intensifying already, the shimmer when he flashes is unbelievable. I would choose the flasher over the dottyback anyday but it is your choice and your preference.

Its great isn't it the cleaning, I love to see it.

I love the Coral beauty myself, the colours are stunning

I dare say you will find a way to update :good:

And I don't blame you on MA either, have you seen there staff advert in PFK, applicants must be "sales driven"

hey!

Nice bike then :p?

I cant wait to see them all mate ;) and hope your lappy gets fixed!

BTW! i think i got the go ahead to go marine in the summer !

im making a new topic! im so excited!

its a nice bike, good all round suspension, and a good ride on the road too, great gears for those hills.

cool cant wait

the clavularia is coming tomorrow, will it be okay till say 3:30? i will be back home then (I will have to bike it to school so i can get home quicker)

i think it should be, i will be acclimatizing for 3-4 hours so there should be no biggies? whats your opinion?

i can see there being a problem if it was xenia for example, but surely clavularia should be fine?

put money on a banggai cardinal (go seff and trod are going to kill me   ) and i asked my mum if she would consider acclimatizing a coral, but sucking on some pre clamped air line doesnt appeal to her -_-

You will be ok with Trod, she likes them............however, well you know how I feel about the blooming boring things - just hanging there, doing nothing

But wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all liked the same things :good:

Seffie x

:fish:

The coral will be fine IMO, considering just how long they are in a box overnight when imported to an LFS in packaging that is not to be disired, so if well packaged they will be fine :good:

i saw one at my LFS, them cardinals are amazing!

If i made a 20gal tank, could I keep a pair of them?

i dont know if i could keep any other fishes =/

i am extremely sorry to hijack truck

i wouldnt keep a pair in a 20 gallon, a 55 then yes but not a 20.

coral is here, just put it in the tank after 2 hours dripping, little white buds beginning to appear, time lapse photography in progress

dolly is really active today!

Don't listen to seffie :flex: I like the banggai cardinal, was very tempted to get one myself :good:

Looking forward to seeing the little guy  and your new coral :good:
