I am currently taking a bio class and I am putting together a collection. These two species are found in the Class Brachipoda. Fairy shrimp are found in the Order Anostraca, while Clam shrimp are found in the Order Conchostraca. I am looking to purchase these two species to complete my collection and give a presentation on them. Any help would be great!

These two species are found in the Class Brachipoda.

id double check this part - if you are dealing with shrimps, then they are arthropods. the classification is Phylum Arthropoda, then either Class or Subphylum Crustacea.

brachiopods are something totally different, they are a type of shellfish. rathe rare these days but far more common in the fossil record - they also happen to be my area of research.

google image 'brachiopod' and you will see what i mean.

I double checked and the information that I posted is correct. Class: Branchiopoda Order: Anostraca for the Fairy Shrimp, the Brine shrimp is another example of the order Anostraca. While the Clam shrimp is found in the order Conchostraca Class Branchiopoda. There are actually two more Orders under the Class Brachiopoda. Order Cladocera consisting of water fleas. Last Order Notostraca consisting of Tadpole shrimp.

I understand that the Fariy shrimp and Clam shrimp may be difficult to locate but I need to locate these two species.

Thank You Brach

ah well theres a big difference between brachiopods and branchiopods.

not to worry then, seems you have it all sorted.

I don't know what "clam shrimp" are unless they go by some other name. But you can get fairy shrimp eggs (in little packets that come with instructions) at either www.carolina.com (Carolina Biological) of www.wardsci.com (Ward Science). They both have LOTS of neat things and I've gotten different live specimens from them. They're both in the U.S.

Very very old post, but just in case anyones looking for these, just buy a triops kit, and you will always get fairy shrimp and daphnia in with the triops eggs. Its common to get clam shrimp in the mix too, but don't count on it. Naturally you will have to separate the triops before they kill everything else in the tank.
