Hi im new to this site i need help with my fishes. Ive got a 38 litre tank and these are the fishes ive got in it : 1 lobster, 1 Silver tale shark, 2 fighters, 2 tetra, 4 barbs, 2 male guppies, 1 female guppies, 2 mollys, 4 dwafts gouramis, 1 baby green terror, 2 tiger barbs, 4 siamese fighters. Are they ok?

in a word - no, your tank is far too small for those fish and you have mixed some that are very unsuitable together.

lobster - doesn't belong with any fish - will nip and eat them.

4 siamese fighters - presume these are male? In which case, a maximum of 1 per tank otherwise they will fight to the death

silver shark - grows far too large for your tank

2 tetra? Which species? All tetra need to be in larger groups - 6+ as a minimum

4 barbs - what type of barbs?

4 dwarf gourami - are they male? if so, see the advice for siamese fighters

green terror - gets too large and will eat pretty much everything else in your tank

Hello, welcome to fish forums.Im just gonna jump straight into it - your tank is a tad overstocked,

can I have the measurements?
Lets go through your listFirst the lobster will grow to about 20cm and will eventually eat all your fish.
The silver shark I assume you meant will grow to around 12 inches and is a schooling fish and should be rehomed to someone with a school of them.
Only 1 fighter per tank if male and females can be housed together but only in a bigger tank.
Tetras are schooling fish and should be in groups of 6+, what type of tetra is it?
Guppies fine,
mollies should be in 20g+
1 Dwarf Gourami per tank depending on M:F Ratio, also they will not co-exist with your fighters.
Tiger barbs are very aggressive and should not be housed with your current stock and should be in groups of 10+
What type of filter do you have?

The Pet shoP said the lobster can stay in
My tank untill it gets bigger. I think the siamese fighters are male im not sure but they are not fightening and they have been in the tank for over a week. The silver tale shark will get big but ive gotta take it back to the shop when it does. The tetras are pink stripe. Ive got 2 serpae tetras. The gouramis and siamese have been fine in tank. The green terror is a baby about 1".

My tank is about 18" long about 12" width and about 10" high. Ive got a fish r fun internal fliter which i bought yesterday as previous fliter broke

I havent got a picture of my tank as i have no way of putting it up as im using my phone

I'm afraid your pet shop is wrong about the lobster. Pet shops are there to make money, some of the information they give may not be the best.

I point you back to your original question " Ive got a 38 litre tank and these are the fishes ive got in it - Are they ok".....and the answer is no, for all the reasons myself and Snake have pointed out. You may not have problems now, but you WILL have problems.

Now you say you have a brand new filter in there....this is bad news as I assume you did not transfer the filter media from the old filter to the new one? The filters main job is to remove chemicals (ammonia and nitrite) from the water and it uses a bacteria colony to do this. If the filter is brand new, then no bacteria will be present and the levels of the ammonia/nitrite will be rising to dangerous levels, especially with that size tank and so many fish.

please do have a read of our beginners section and pay close attention to the threads about 'cycling', this will explain the process of setting up a new filter in much more detail.

Ok so what do you suggest i should do?

Honestly, I would return all the fish (and lobster) and start again. We can offer some advice on suitable stocking for that size tank.

Ok so what fishes can i have in my tank?

The fisrt thing you need to be doing is 90% daily water changes with that amount of stock if your tank is not cycled or you will kill the lot!! Read up on this thread and quick:-

Beginners Resource Center.

Honestly I agree with everyone else, take all of the fish back to the shop and start a fresh. You may not be having problems now but very soon your fish will start to die.Do a 90% water change now and that will bring down the ammonia, I wouldn't suggest taking the fish back to the shop, the guy is a liar. Rehome the shark and lobster to a person with a big tank ideally 4ft+.

Ok so what fishes can i have in my tank?

GuppiesNeon TetraI would suggest getting some mature media from someone.

Rehome your current fish before you think about new fish, do you water test? The bacteria lives in the filter only.

Rehome everysingle on of your fish to a private buyer. You can keep 1 fighter, up your neons. The filter cannot do its job without it being mature.

What you really need to do is get rid of the shark and Lobster first then deal with your other fish/Get rid of all of the fighters except 1 male.

We are a friednly we will not lie to you, the shop is there to make money, he will lie to you, they want to make money, we're here out of love for fish.

Just to add male and female fighters *CANNOT CO-EXIST*
