I Once Said I'd Never Upgrade...

So sorry H! I am so dim sometimes
Yes, the ricordeas and mushrooms can unstick themselves and go walkabout when they're not happy. I called all my rics after great explorers as there were some of them that wouldn't sit still for ages

The cardinals are Blue eyed Cardinalfish - Apogon compressus :D

Seffie, after much confusion the skimmer is running as it should :D
When I first set it up, the airline with the orange tap on the end was trapped between the pump and the divider plate that keeps the pump in place. The water was surging out of the skimmer and I was at a loss for what to do about it as i didn't know the line was pinched. There was no flow control whatsoever

Now it's bubbling away happily without the huge bubbles you can see here...

Just a few micro bubbles but I am sure that will settle. I can hear the pump now compared to yesterday when the pipe was trapped, but nothing unbearable :D

I had micro bubbles to start with Jenny, but they settled down, still get some bubbles but they don't bother me

neat looking cardinals. Never have had the pleasure of viewing them before.

Love your tank stocking. Looks FABULOUS as usual

And that goby is HUGE!!

Nice looking tank JB that is one huge goby he is like the king kong of the goby world

He is rather big! He's so nosey too and follows me round the tank when I'm in there :D

still trying to get the skimmer so I don't get any water in the collection cup. Doesn't the skimmate smell lovely?

My hand now hurts like a good'un but thought I'd have a go with my good camera as I've missed playing with it for the last couple of months.

The results are as follows :)
A bit blurry here and there, but practice will make my hand stronger again and it's impossible to use a tripod while kneeled on the arm of the sofa with your lens almost touching the glass

this green cabbage is actually growing after doing nothing for ages!
70.jpg

torch or frogspawn? The latter I think. It's now got 3 heads :D
72.jpg

my gsp loves the faster flow in the corner of the tank and I'm hoping both types will spread to cover the rock they are on

trying my macros with a new technique of balancing but it's not quite there yet as it hurts

:D

Lovely. If you trim back the Acans, can I have some :p

I'd have said you are correct with the ID of Frogspawn, those tentacles divide part way down into multiple tentacles at the top :good:

All the best

Time for an update :D

Not much has changed apart from the kenya tree has gone to a new home so I've moved a few bits about. I am waiting for some branching rock to turn up and will be having a bit of a rescape now my hand is much improved.
The skimmer has settled down well and is pulling out loads of crud so all the corals are happy :D

I've got a new torch coral
93.jpg

the clowns have showed no interest in this at all
89.jpg

a new long polyped toady
103.jpg

the duncan keeps throwing out new heads left right and centre...17 at last count compared to 3 when I got it a year ago

104.jpg

it's bulking out nicely now

All is well with the livestock so all is well with me :D

The only thing I am looking to change is the salt I'm using...the D-D H2Ocean salt is giving me cyano outbreaks so it's time to look into something else methinks

Just an update...had a set back just after the TOTM competition when I got a leak in the pipework for the external where the inline heater was fitted. I took it all out and put a Rena Smartheater in situ only to have the flaming thing break in the on position and it near boiled the tank :(
My OH was luckily home early and noticed everything looking terrible and turned off the heater straight away but not before it hit over 33 degrees. All the corals were shut up and the fish were gasping.
To cut a long story short, the corals are slowly picking up now. I lost two of my gobies, the blue mushies, the xenia and the lps are taking their time settling in again.
In the new year the tank will get a bit of a skyline rescape as I hope to get a good few bits of branching rock to add to the scape and then cover that in various softies like rics, gsp or xenia.

I was gutted that this happened and now have an ATC800+ running the heater and it will also be good for the summer for cooling purposes :D
