Watching fish.
Well, I got one. I got a Shubunkin and named it Spate which, I think is roman for Spot. I'm just introducing him IN the Aquarium now, so I'll see how he does.

Congratulations, you are going to kill some goldfish. Yes really. Go and read the info I posted in your other thread.

congrats on the fish

though i will say you will need to move them to a bigger tank pretty soon
check out ebay (great bargains on there at the moment) and also freecycle , gumtree and recycling center
they might have the taller tanks that will give the fish more room

make sure you are doing regular water changes and checking your ammonia and nitrite levels
you might end up having to do daily water changes to keep the levels in check while they are in that sized tank
as ammonia and nitrites will poison the fish and can damage their organs

what type of filter do you have on the tank - getting a larger capacity filter would help with water quality in the short term until you can get the tank and also plenty of gravel vacs

remember to treat your water with dechlorinator before topping up the tank after a wate change

He/she has already said in the previous thread that he/she cannot afford another tank and does not have space for anything bigger. And he/she has now crammed 3 goldfish into a 6 gallon tank, and is refusing to take them back or rehome them. There is no filter available that I know of that can run a 6 gallon tank in such a way as to cope with that amount of waste.

OP- They are of course your fish and you will do with them what you will. But if you keep them in that tank you will kill them or cause premature death and health problems . They will not live for the 20+ years they are supposed to live for. Yours will be lucky to make it to 5-10 years.

If you dont have a filter on the tank at the moment then you need to get one right away
evcen a sponge filter run by an airline will be better than none at all

you are always welcome to pm me for links to cheap filters that would be suitable for your tank - if you havent got one :)

let me know where you are and i'll pm you some links to some cheap second hand larger tanks for the fish in your area

I found out how to make a homeade one, and they work amazingly, so I am going to try one of those. Wish me luck!

If it's the sponge filter from the DIY thread on this site, IT IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH for anything other than fry, bettas or shrimp . If it's using even a big fish food tub, it still isn't remotely strong enough to take the waste of those fish . I'm seriously not kidding.

Not only do you require a 55 gallon tank or bigger, you need a filter that can cope with the waste of three goldfish, all of whom should grow to 10 inches minimum, usually bigger. If you've only just got them and they are small ( which is the most likely reason you are keeping them in such a tiny tank, wrongly ) then you should use a large internal cannister filter like a Fluval 4+ or similar. When they are fully grown they will need an external filter like a tetratec or an eheim.

There is plenty of information available on goldfish and you do not appear to have looked at any of it.

Jpmc you need to follow the advice you are being given. What you are doing is Animal Cruelty and nothing less.

You are being given good, advice from Experienced fishkeepers. PLEASE TAKE IT!

Your tank isn't big enough for 1 Goldfish, never mind three. I advise you take the fish back to the shop. You can not keep those fish in a tank of this size.

If you really cared for them that much. You would do the right thing.

hi Jpmc
im not here to tell you what to keep your fish in ,i too am guilty of having my tank is over crowded.
i have a 3 foot tank that has 2 large standard goldies,1 small goldie ,1 very large fantail and 1 koi (that over wintered growing on in the tank soon to be moved to pond).
i have had thes from babies and one of the big goldies i have owned18 years , the other 14yrs , the fan tail 7yrs,the koi 1yrs and the little goldie 2yrs.
the filter i use is a fluval 304 external filter and a fluval plus four.
i have learned the hard way i have nursed the older fish through some rough times and sickness all caused by inadequate filtration so the one piece of advice i give is buy a filter
try a fluval internal filter they are cheap too look around you will find them cheaper still look for hagen fluval internal filters

they also have a flow restrictor and a aerator pipe
or even have a look at these ideal if your tank hasnt got alot of space for an internal filter

I agree with the other members. Goldfish are massive waste producers so need double filteration. If you have a 50 gallons tank you need a 100 gallon filter to keep up with the waste of the fish.

Fancy goldfish 15 gallons for the first one, Ten gallons for every other one added.
Common goldifsh 20 gallons for the first one. Ten gallons for every other one added.
