Gutted, I have my own ammonia test kits and very rarely use it now to be fair.

It's the first thing I check though if the fish don't look well!

weez dont quit as it sounds like a mucky fish! demand a credit as a clown has to be pretty sick to die after 24 hours.

Im going coral only now unless the other one does survive, he looks so happy, absolutely fine.

weeza dont give up. ok you have had a set back it could happen to any of us, once you know the other fish is ok and i suspect it will be why not try starting out with cheaper fish like chromis or something like that. i think a tank with coral only would be missing something if there were no fish, even if you had a stunning reef, i feel you were stitched up by the lfs and i would return the fish to him pronto

I have a sample bagged up ready to grab in morning. nitrate test is the palest pink ever so noone of that there. They can test away but I just think because I said I will take him from them anyway they will say it is my fault, I am no good at confrontation and wont get anywhere. I got 2 halloween hermits, one died in the bag. I didnt think it was moving when I took it out and acclimatised it etc and put it in the tank, no movement so thought today I will check him, not moved and an empty shell. They have such a good rep too I just cant believe it

You have the wrong mentality:

they will say it is my fault,

If your water parameters are fine then there's no reason why they wont replace it.

there needn't be a confrontation, this guy will want your continued custom, if he doesn't help you out and after all the fish & crab lasted only 24 hours i would just tell him politely you wont be buying any more livestock from them, try timing your visit to when there are other customers in there too

Me: I want some clowns please
him: We dont have many at the moment as there are more in QT. I would recommend waiting for them in a week, they are common clowns, but we have some tank bred true percs here, just have a look which ones you would like
Me: That one looks ok but why does that one have a lump
him: Im not sure what that is but they are fine
Me: is it a parasite or something
him: No. You could wait for the others in a week but these should be fine as you have no other fish in the tank. Personally I would wait
Me: Well are these going to be ok as the commons are bigger than I wanted
Him: Yeah they will be absolutely fine

Soooo thats a basic convo we had, it is evidentally my choice to have them, the commons were huge and I wanted tank bred percs, prefered them so I guess I took a risk

It sucks to lose fish i lost both my clowns and my pyjama wrasse a month ago when I started my nano and it was gutting but now my clowns are going strong

So don't give up

Stringy poo is not a water problem. 4 most likely causes in clown fish.

1. Brookynella
2. Parasitic Worms
3. Dinoflagellates
4. Bacteria

Given the speed at which it killed the fish and the fact that there was a mark on it I would guess brookynella. Brookynella or Clown fish disease as it is more commonly known is very hard to treat. Did He have any slimy white coating over his eyes or body before he died. Don't Blame yourself I'm having problems with my fish and all my stats are on the button, so chances are there is nothing you could do.

I would politely go and ask for my money back. Especially since it was noted that the fish had an issue before you bought it.

dont blame yourself hun if the fish was on sale then its down to them to replace them amd dont let this let u lose intrest in the tank ive bought fish many times that have lasted less then 48 hours and had them ypur not givin this up or ill have to drive down to u and tell u to your face lol

Just makes me feel #105###. Didnt notice anything on his eye just his mouth. Poor thing was lying on the sand then shoot up and swim then started to not be able to stay upright. When he rested he kept turning on his side a litte and tried to right himself. I reay just dont get it.
Uriel, if it is something like that does that not mean the other will have it too?

I am going to go down there and chat to them. I wont ask for the money back, I have a bag of water ready but the fish is in a bucket of water because otherwise they are going to test the water and think I have high amm because the fish is decomposing in the bag if u get what I mean. I want them to see the bit on his mouth.

Made a mistake on the hermit. He must be molting as there were dead legs in front of the shell and he hadnt moved since I added him but the other one has. When I picked him up I couldn't see anything yet when I went just now to turn lights off I saw little orange legs poking out so used the scraper to touc him and the legs slowly moved in. Do they stay still when molting?

Weez it doesn't sound like ur fault at all!! If the other is fine it's unlikely to be your parameters. Don't give up.

Get an Amm test kit ASAP tho!! Cos with fish it's the most important!! It's not your fault you didnt have one and it's almost imposs to be what killed him. I'd suggest a disease as already said.

Sorry for your loss but you can't give up! x
