i did it!!

hey there, i do have a mw culture on the way :D but it wont' get there until a few days from now earliest (canada's day + the weekend coming up)

as for the fry :D i wish i could take pics!! damnit to hell i KNEW i should have gotten liquid fry yesterday -_- i can't now becuase all the stores are closed :( how long will the infuroisa last the fry before they "outgrow" it?

do you guys decap your BBS? i want to, but i can't figure out how much chlorine to add per teaspoon of BBS eggs...also, how much water do you need for each teaspoon of bbs eggs?

Congrats again, cc!!
Poor girl has been pulling her hair out for the last 44 hours you guys

Definately decap your bbs  1/3 part bleach to 2/3 part water. I have the details mentioned in the betta breeding article. I didn't even think about Canada Day :X Your mw's went out yesterday so I think they'll be there by Monday at the absolute latest, lets just hope they survive the trip.

Babies,CC,babies!!!! :hyper:

on a postive note, I've never had to use liqui-fry, I get microorganisms growing within a day, the same may happen for you. Try and leave your lights on as much as possible for the next day.

:D thanks kelly!!!

ohhhh this is so incredibly exciting!!! :D i hope i get the mw culture soon :D i gotta read up on how to keep the culture running :X

just checked on the dad adn babies, more are falling down now, and i think dad just had a very nice snakc on one of them :grr: he blwos them back to teh bubblenest but they just fall down again!! i dont' have the slightest clue to how many fry there are in there. :/

i will decap the brine shrimp, seems like a good step to take  after pulling my hair out for 2 days trying to get them to embrace, i'm now pulling my hair out for the fry, adn soon will be pulling my hair out wondering when to take dad out!

i will be bald soon

LOL!

No worries, you've made it this far  and I'm sure your hair looks just fine, you can put a clip over the bald spots

It's ok if he eats a few, it happens
"oops swallowed another one :*) :X "

:D is it normal to be able to spot little dots on top of the bubblenest? i'm looking at it from teh top and i see littel specks...almost like dirt sprinkled on top of the nest, it's quite neat :D i estimate about 50...maybe less. some are still falling, some are falling and swimming back up..others are just falling lol.

dad is catching everyone of them...excpet for the few that he wans to eat lol

Awesome!! I'm so excited for you :) If you have plants then you have infusoria, if you can get liquifry then great, if not, don't worry, you'll still have infusoria, as Kelly says, be sure the tank gets light and that will keep the infusoria going. The infusoria should hold them over until you get the MW's but if you want to hatch out some BBS and add a small amount in a couple of days then that's ok too, just watch them to see if they eat them. I know of someone who didn't think she had any fry so she took the dad out and ignored the tank for a couple of weeks, finally went to clean it out and she noticed something moving in the tank, took a closer look and FRY! She had a bunch of 2 week old fry in the tank who survived solely on whatever they found in the tank, obviously Infusoria, as the tank did have plants. So yours should be fine until you get the MW's and BBS going. You will undoubtedly have more fry than you realize, I always do, Lol.

And don't despair about Dad eating an occassional one, quite often he will recognize it isn't healthy and will eat it, that's what you want, don't need those unhealthy ones dieing after Dad is gone and having it rot in the tank. Now if you see him taking mouthfuls and eating them then you have a problem and want to take him out, but watch carefully, sometimes it will take him a few seconds before he spits them out as the Dad will give them little baths in his mouth to keep any fungus from growing on them (just as he did with the eggs probably).

Good luck :)

Hi cutecotton :)

How wonderful for you. I'm soooo happy to hear the good news! :D

hi everyone :D dad is getting more and more busy now sinc emore and more fry are dropping!! it's amazing watching him work, but i think he gets mad if i spy on him too much :*)

I think by tmororw i should be able to take him out. I notice a few fry (very very few) are starting to get more control of their swimming and starting to trya dn swim horizontally!

When i do my first water change, the change is really starting to smellllllll  like POOP

No water changes yet, definately not until after dad is out. Even then it can only be very small as to not shock the fry. After the first week you can do water changes like crazy :)

:D ....

i forgot what i was going to post lol :*)

oh right, i wnated to say..uhh (oh god short term memroy lost :p) oh right (sorry just came back from staring at the babies ), wehn it ake dad out and lower the water level to 3" i will take that chance and syphon up those poop! :grr: everyone i look i see fungas on my fry lol.

You see fungus on the fry??? If so you have a problem, I'm hoping that's not what you mean. And why are you lowering the water after you take dad out, what level is the water now? It should have been started low to start with, so I'm a bit confused, hehe.

And yes, fry will constantly be falling out of the nest, very normal. The father will put some in the nest only to knock more out, it's a never ending job, Lol.

lol :D well it's now been 24 hours for the fry, some are free swimming. i think i got about 50, and 20 of them are lying at the bottom of the tank, another 20 or so sticking to the leaves and the rest are in the nest, or sticking to teh side close by to the nest :D

as for the water level, it's now at about half filled the 10G, when i take dad out i'll lower the water levle to about 3" so the fry wound't have to swim all that way there.

As for the fungas thing, i didn't mean that i see fungas ON the fry, i just mean there is fungas on teh poop in the tank and i'm afraid that'll start infecting my fry so i really watn to syphon it out. I'll take the chance and syphon it a bit (JUST A BIT) when i lower the water level.

It is a never ending job! he blwos them back to the nest, but hten 50% of them fall back down, and he has to get them all over again. Some have drifted quite far from the nest, they are nestling in the leaves by themselves now. Dad is only picking up what he can, i'm sure he's going a litilte crazy, like this:

There really is no reason to lower it any lower than it already is (half full in a 10 gallon), that level is perfectly fine for the fry. When you lower it any more you obviously will have less water in the tank which will lead to the water quality dropping much faster, which is a very bad thing as water quality is your most important thing for fry. I actually start raising the level of the water slowly, starting about a week after they are hatched. By the time they are 4 weeks old the 10 gallon is full. This helps to keep the water quality high (more water volume). I also do vacuuming as soon as I feel I can (usually a few days after they hatch). If the fry are so weak that the tank being at half full is a problem for them, you don't truely want them to survive anyway as they will be weak Juvis, and weak adults (if they even make it that long which is doubtful). Keep in mind, in the wild they are in lakes and ponds which are much deeper than our tanks, and they do just fine there.

Glad to hear the fry don't have fungus, Lol. I was worried for a while. Sounds like Dad is doing a great job, he'll deserve a real nice feeding when you take him out :)
