I have sheet sponge as well, and the unit came with one coarse sponge, that I layered over the Japan cloth in one section.... I don't want to reduce the GPH too much... and the goal here is maybe once per month ( at least regularly ) doing the rock piles... I think blowing is likely safer than trying to push around a reduced suction tube, and placing my inlet strategically to best suck up anything blown out, will help...

It's what I do atm, I push around a reduced suction tube (with a custom tip). It's only powered by gravity and it does a good job.

Cant imagine what it would do at 500 Gph, but it surely is going to be enough
