hi i have just recently counted hundreds of snails in my tank (no exaggeration) I eventually had to give up counting lol. This is because i bought some live plants and they were on it.

Anyway my water conditions are perfect:

pH: 6.8
ammonia: 0 ppm
nitrItes: 0 ppm
nitrAtes:p 10 ppm
temperature: 80 degrees Farenheit

But every fish i put in this tank dies...
Is this because the snails are killing them? Are the snails polluting the tank and giving off something that kills these fish? I have had angelfish, guppies, mollies, female bettas, neon tetras, and swordtails die within 2 days of entering my tank (but my water quality is perfect, so how are they dying?!)

Im soo confused.... :-(

when snails die they release deadly oxins to the water i have had loads of problems with these little critters tried all sorts and finally tried esha snail treatment and it has worked wonders for me

cheers dane

really? They release oxins that are deadly to fish?

Then could this be why all of the fish die?

YES!!!! FINA;LLY I KNOW WHATS WRONG!!! lol thank you dane so much, you just saved my tank lol :hyper:

Have you cycled your tank? That could be why they are dying.

Hi
Just like dane i also have had success using esha gastropex snail treatment i got mine from Maidenhead Aquatics. It claims to be safe with fish and plants and you dose twice, first deals with existing snails second dose 2 weeks later deals with newly hatched eggs good luck
Ian

are you sure snails give off deadly oxins?? has anyone else heard of that before?

I think what dane means is that when the snails die like anything else they decompose and release nasties into the water

ooo i get it, so your saying that all of these snails that are reproduced die and foul the tank?

Yeah, toxins when they die. It does happen. You might want to give all these snails to a friend with a snail eating fish. Also, as insane as this sounds, buy a dwarf puffer. OK, I don't mean it, but I would rather do that than use chemicals to lose snails.
