Hubby Bought Me A Violet Goby

Most any brackish water tolerant species should be possible. Among the fish you might consider would be mollies, Endler guppies, Limia, knight gobies, orange chromides (space permitting, they're territorial), Florida flagfish and Asian killifish (including the "golden wonder killi").

Cheers, Neale

I like colourful, interesting fish and would like all levels of the water covered. I intend to get more Violet Gobies (1 or 2 if possible) and not sure what else as I don't want my current inhabitants to get eaten or harrassed in any way.

Hi all,

You may have noticed that I've changed the title of this thread. It wasn't to confuse you all, honestly! :p It's because I don't see Bones as a "big mistake" anymore and I wouldn't return him even if I could. He is by far my favourite fish, with such personality and so interesting to observe. Although, I may be slightly neglecting the housework and sleep with the time I spend watching him,

I managed to get some photos of Bones whilst he was eating...he puffs his head right up, lol, it makes his head look huge but it means you can see a lot of detail. I swear he's getting visibly fatter by the day! :hyper:

Yesterday he had live bloodworms and live brine shrimp..he loved it and so did the Guppies. It was hilarious to see the tiny fry taking on brine shrimp as big as themselves or trying to eat a wriggly bloodworm longer than their own body length!!!!

I'm not sure I'll be feeding live shrimp again though as I felt really sorry for them and they reminded me of the "sea monkeys" I used to keep as pets. -_-

The reason you can't see any photos is that I can't work out how to put them on here :stupid: I've put photos on a post before but there was an upload area (green upload button)where I could browse my stuff to find them. Now that isn't there anymore and I don't know how to use the "insert image " link ..it wants me to enter the URL and I don't know what or how to do that. What my other half tried didn't work and it told me that "dynamic pages aren't allowed in the tags"...whatever that means.

Any help appreciated! ????

As I've mentioned before, I'm a bit anal/obsessed when it cames to how the tank looks, especially the substrate. I like everything neat and level and perfectly positioned and when it's out of place it drives me nuts

Well, since having Bones..it's like that therapy where they throw you in the deep end and make you face your fears! LOL. He spends every spare minute digging and burrowing in the sand and my once perfect tank looks a mess........all the ornaments are wonky and falling down into holes he has dug. One hole is so big that about 4 ornaments/fake plants are falling into it. If that isn't bad enough, everything is also covered in sand from his constant burrowing!!!
Every time I look at it I cringe and want to start rearranging everything and it's only the fact that he's so obviously really enjoying himself (and getting better) that stops me!! I'll post some pics of that too when I finally figure it out, lmao.

Thanks,

Nikki :)

For the ornaments, a good idea is to use some silicone sealant. Choose some suitable ornaments. For example, an oyster shell reef works really well in brackish tanks. Buy a dozen oysters from Waitrose or similar (if you go shopping at the right time, these are 50 p a piece, otherwise they're a pound). Use the silicone to glue the lids to the shells, ideally slightly ajar so gobies and guppies can explore them, and then glue the oyster shells together into a big clump. If you Google oyster reef you can see lots of photos of these structures in the wild, and they make very authentic additions to brackish water tanks, being classic estuary animals.

Now, place your big reef anywhere in the tank. When it gets to messy, pick the thing up, shake the sand off, and put it back. Build multiple reefs if you want, perhaps siliconing some fake seaweed onto them as well, to create additional "units". Basically you're making mobile scenery units.

PS. For the adding images, the add URL command assumes the image is online somewhere. A lot of people here use things like Flickr and Image Shack. My images are hosted on my .Mac web space. Whichever you use, there should be a way to copy across the URL to the clipboard. From there, you simply paste that into the "enter URL" box that appears when you click on the Add Image button.

I've set up an account with picasa web albums and tried to paste a link over and get the same message that dynamic pages aren't allowed. What am I doing wrong?

I've got a "link to this photo" tag on this site but when I copy and paste this link over it won't allow me to submit post as it says that phrase about dynamic posts.?! ????

Yeah, got there after many attempts!!!! :) THANKS

He's adorable.

To add pics you can just paste the IMG code onto your reply and the pic will appear once you hit add reply. :good:

When I try to paste the img link it won't allow me due to "dynamic pages" not being allowed. It won't even let me put the link on here so you can see and maybe tell me which words to delete. :(

Yeah, he's adorable, isn't he!

He must be twice the size than when I first got him! Thanks for looking! :D

Nikki

There you go

Thanks, though. He's no grumpier looking than my other half, lmao!!....just kidding!

Will have a go at putting some more on later.

Nikki :)

Edited to add: I tried to put it on again and can't...how useless am I, lol ???

I can get a link to it but not actually post the pic here...anyone explain why and how EXACTLY I do it.

Thanks,

Nikki :)

You find the exact URL where your image is (it will end in .jpg/bmp/gif/png etc) and copy it, then you click theis little icon
rte-image-button.png
and paste it into the pop up box, then clock ok.

Good looking goby, I hate seeing them kept in proper conditions.

Thanks, T, I will try that again later. Not sure what you meant by the last sentence? I'm assuming you meant improper conditions (as he was in the shop), lol.

If not, let me know exactly what I'm doing wrong and I will try to correct it :)

Regards,

Nikki :)
