I have noticed that many members, including myself, often get well over 100 views of our posted pics (in members aquarium and fish pic forum) but rarely get many replys/comments.

I get disheartened at often taking over 50 pics just to get the "one" that feels good enough to post and only have 2 or 3 "nice pics" replys.
I feel like why should I bother to waste my time and post in that forum.
I'm not asking for everyone to say something nice or just to reply for the sake of the postees ego, but come on people, if you like some of the pics posted then say so; adversly if you don't like them why not say that too(politely or course)

I'm not ranting, just trying to put down how I feel sometimes, when I've taken a great amount of time to get the right shot. Yes acceptance and praise is a ego boost, but we all need that at times, the same goes for critisisum (even if we don't want to hear it) we need it.

oh well back to photoshop and editing more unwanted pics.

Sometimes when I post pics I check the thread periodically and see no replies yet other peoples who were posted after mine get an equal number of replies for viewed threads. But when I get an awesome comment about my fish from someone it makes it all worthwhile. Even if there is only 1 reply.

That said, I don't look at all members pics threads. If it sounds interesting or is a fish I am interested in I will generally look. Others I look at depend on how much time I have.

Sorry, Wolf, it is often a question of time. Looking at a post takes so much less time than typing a reply. My problem is, because I am supposed to be writing for work, once I start typing I realise I am not doing what I should- I can look at a post, or stare out of the window, and forget, but once I type it becomes obvious.....

It is still thoughtless though, and one should take time over the positive threads too.

edit: I know I just added a long rant elsewhere, but somehow a rant counts as work in my distorted brain, I'm sure this can't be right....

I voted disheartened, because although I've never posted pics before (it's on my to-do list :p) I can imagine how let down I'd feel if I went to all the trouble of taking pictures, sifting through and finding the best, posting and waiting... my post has 50 views.. but apparently no-one can be bothered to type, 'Cute betta! he looks like my...' or 'Nice tank! I like the driftwood!'

But like Angry_Platy said, some nice replies make it all worthwhile. :)

Well it's a tricky one Wolf. There are often threads saying that people just post comments like "nice looking fish you have there" - in order to get their post count up. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does make me think (to an extent) about what I post. I don’t want to be seen to post willy nilly – so I will generally only post a comment if it’s about fish I:

1) have myself
2) find interesting / unique / outstanding photos.

And that's the way I see it myself when posting pictures and don't get many comments - c'est la vie. It's not going to ruin my day ;)

It is indeed a "tricky one"
I myself do try and say at least something if I look at someones pics
even it is just "nice fish". I do however not look at that many but at least I'm not adding to the numbers of views that way.
It dosn't ruin my day, as I said it is just disheartening.
As for the post count bumping, I think we all know where I stand on that one. :fun:

yep after posting threads with some times other 10 pictures which took time to get a descent shot, edit it so it fits on the page then upload it and make the codes in the reply for barely any feedback I don't feel like bothering doing it again.

I'ved had no replies before for a long picture topic and i hate it!

now i restrain myself to only doing a few shots at a time.

the thing is, people see the link on the front page of the forum and click that to get into the meber aquarium pics forum (i used to do it, dont know why  )

but for me, i couldnt care less. i post my pictures for fun, not to show off

DD

So you are posting your pics to get other people to see them or to get other people to give you feedback??? It really doesn't matter if people post replies or not, consider this:

-Some people don't even have an account and just like to look around, to get ideas or whatever..
-Some people decide to take a look at all the topics as possible, without posting.
-Just because people don't post it doesn't means they didn't like it.

If I had a digital camera I would post tons of pics, and wouldn't feel so bad if I get like one reply per 100 views, why have tons of posts saying the same thing anyway???

I personally try to post only when I can provide something usefull (or I ahve a doubdt), and not just one-word posts.

That's just my opinion so you may or may not agree

:p

as I have said previously
we all need our egos boosting, sometimes.

maybe I am reading too much into this, but it seems that a few members also feel the same way as I do.

Same, my pics get posted for fun and to share my fishies!

When i first started here no one, or hardly anyone ever commented on my pics. But now alot of people do, and i makes me feel nice, but i wonder why i happen to get more posts now i dont appear to be a newb???? :shifty: I see something in that...

You're right mr_miagi32, to some extent it almost certainly also has to do with how well the member is know. Though obviously in this case it doesn't apply to Wolf, as he's rather famous (or is that infamous! ) :p ;)

I have a reputation?
:p
(The-Wolf wonders if that is a good or bad thing)

I actually get a worse response when I post a fish related question (especially hardware) than if I post photos!!

The other trend to notice is it seems that the replies are directly related sometimes to the quality of the photo.

If you see someone who posts a small blurry picture and then the next thread is full of photos like freshmike posts then it seems people are more apt to reply to the thread with the better pics.

Can't really explain why. I know I'm guilty of it too.
