Hotter Weather = Hotter Tank.

I'm a portuguese living in the UK at the moment. And i can easily tell at home you don't need an A/C in the UK you hardly have a summer, and when you have really hot weather it lasts for five or six days a year.
My tank here in the UK no matter what still needs its heater working during the summer. On the other hand in the winter is really hard to keep the tank going with just one heater.
In portugal were i had my previous tanks, during the summer you definitely keep your heater unplugged, it does not go on, but why keep it on when its safer to unplug it.
The water temperature can go easily 32 or 33 degrees. Which far above the normal 25/26.
In august when the temperatures can reach above 43 degrees outside keeping the tank cold is a very hard task, there are A/c's in the market but most people don't have them since they're expensive and in portugal money is hard to come by.
So to keep our tanks cool we use one sometimes two bottles with iced water,computer fans in our lighting systems to help decrease the heat of the lights,fans pointed at the water surface. Some use chillers but is quite rare since they are expensive.
Basically we use what we have at hand to keep the tank temperature down and still it's not that efective.

I'd defineatly prefer to be in temps of 15 degrees or below compared to temps of 35 or above

Noahs ark6 i only referred the A/c again because while i was reading the thread it looked to me that some people here are not really aware that britain hardly has a summer at all. While some hot countries favour A/c's in their houses.Around here in the UK we favour heaters.
Sorry if it looked like i was criticizing your reply it was not my intention.

Not for me, that's cold. Too cold. Will need heater to permanently keep me warm. X_X I get the chills if room temp falls below 18C (whenever power outage occurs...)

You get used to the cold. What you'll never get used to is the many sudden weather changes troughout the day. Example: morning sunny, lunch time raining.afternoon sunny again.evening rain. Night freezing cold and ice. Thats basically it most of the year in the summer either sun or rain. The fact that u see the sun shinning in the morning does not mean you can leave your jacket and umbrella home when you go to work.
I can't say i don't miss the portuguese endless summer.
But the british way of life gets to you after a while and you end up liking it.
When i go back home i start missing the london way of life and by the end of my holidays i can't wait to get back.

Getting used to cold is hard for me, my body temp's at 34C .
I do like rains however. Especially those with thunder and lightning.

not much thunder and heavy rains around here.
london rain is that kind of rain that you hardly notice its raining except everything and you are always wet.
in the hotter months we do get some heavier rain and thunder a couple of times.

I like thunder so much while I'm in Bucharest, but when I go to the countryside where my grandma lives, those are similar to earthquakes... They shake grandma's cottage. What's worse is the lightning, which is so bright that even if you are in a dark room where there's only one window it will blind you for a few seconds. My cousin and I had to sit with our eyes in the pillow to avoid the pain of the flashes. X_X

Then there's that neighbor whose house got struck by lightning and burned down...

my 4ft tank has been running for around a week with NO heater attatched at all. i filled it around a week ago with cold water from the hose. today my fluval E heater arrived and upon dropping it in the water is sitting around 24 degrees. so even with the hot weather its still not enough for me to run without a heater.

24C is cold? What fish do you keep?

Bettas like that temp but I thought 24 was normal temp for more common fish.
My swordtails seem to not be affected by temps as low as 20C. I had a heater but it didn't even turn on since the water was usually 22C and didn't vary too fast. When it did, it was the fault of power outage, which would have shut down a heater anyway.
And that heater isn't a very safe one, the hoplo kept removing it off the wall, or one of the suckers came off. It just ticked me off instead of doing its job.

with summer here the general air temp gets warmer so hence does the tanks, our room where my 55gal tank is, gets really hot sometimes high 30's C how do i keep the tank cool apart from water changes everyday!!

Turn up your a/c

I run my aquarium at 25.5c and with the hotter weather it's risen to 26.5., but i'm using LED lighting so that helps.
