Hole in tail fin

My blue Veiltail "Phil" has a small hole near the end of his tail fin. Could this be a puncture or an indication of fin rot? What type of care does he need to heal this up. Other than that he's fine, eating, swimming. He is very hyper though. He is the opposite of his new adopted Delta tail brother "Miles" who's laid back.

I am sorry but any photographs I take will be so low resolution that they won't show details. I only have a crappy camera in my tablet.

Anyhow I am worried. It's a hole in his fin that was not there yesterday. He looks ok otherwise. I just did a 50% water change in his 5.5 gallon tank because of this. I use these test strips and it showed nitrites at "Danger" levels. His water was fine on Monday. I need to get a better test kit but at $50 here in Canada is expensive.

Ok. Test strips are not accurate. Nitrites are very dangerous! Do you have any plastic decor? Look into a API master test kit

Yes I am aware nitrates are dangerous! Yes I know I need the API master kit but it costs $50 here in Canada and every time I never can afford it because of other expenses.

Please just help me instead of telling me things I already know! Please!

I don't use Prime. I use Aqueon water conditioner. I know Prime will kill ammonia for 48 hours. I will get some.

Yes, I have Betta safe plastic plants and one Water Sprite plant. Decor is ceramic. He swims through his plants and never has a problem.

Prime doesn't kill anything. It detoxifies ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates for the fish for 24-48 hours. Safe plastic plants? Like? Plastic plants aren't good period for any betta unless it's like a silk one.

Have gravel or sand? It's not fin rot as that starts at the end of the tail. Likely it just got snagged on something. That's why I'm trying to figure out what.

I am sorry for being rude but I am worried for him and I felt that your questions were blaming me for his injury because I had the wrong plants or water conditioner or something else I did caused this.

I appreciate your help and understand if you don't want to help me. I will do like you said and change his water daily. Once again I apologize.

I am not blaming you for the injury. I am just trying to figure out what caused the hole that's all. You don't have the "wrong" water conditioner. It's just that prime does the same, plus does extra to help the betta out. All you can do is just do water changes. Keep his environment healthy. Have any almond leaves? You CAN add medication but sometimes that does more harm than good.

Ok thanks so much for helping! I know you're trying. I just feel bad over this. I removed any plastic plants I think will hurt him. He doesn't have sharp gravel but river stones. I think it is an injury and not fin rot as well.

I don't think I will use medication but I would like to try almond leaves. Can I get this at my pet shop or do I have to go to an Aquarium shop?
