I had aquariums ever since I was a kid but hadn't had one in over 25 years. I was living with well water at the time and was a lot of work to deal with the water, I had neglected a short time and had a die off and although we eventually got a house I didn't set another one up.

So I'm now retired from medical microbiology and was having fun looking at pond water and ditch water under my microscope. I decided to get a fish to balance my protozoa bin and went to PetSmart and got a Betta.

It didn't work out, he's now in a 10 gallon with a few tetras and a snail.

I'm the past I've bred various species but I'm more interested in keeping it simple. I have a 20L and am gleaning as much info as I can before I set it up.

Welcome to the forum and back to the hobby! Make sure your tanks are cycled and ready before fish go in... Also, you may want to give your tetras a bigger tank, especially with a betta in there... A 20G should be minimum for your selected species.

My 20 gallon will not have Bettas, only neons and shrimp. And a snail. Plus plants. If not neons some other gentle schooling fish.

I check my parameters probably every 2nd or third day.

No, no... I wasnt saying to house your betta in that 20g... What I said was that IF you keep the tetras and betta together THEN you should keep them in a 20g... But it sounds like you are moving them.

Great to have you onboard

Hello there! Beautiful Betta 😍 just mind those tetras with him, they may nip his gorgeous fins!

What have you got planned for your 20l?
