Help

Can someone reccomend a good and quiet external filter for my 260 litre tank. I have a internL fluval u2 and u3. I also have a some plants that constantly make mess. So when it comes to cleaning my filter out. It all ends up back in the water as im taking the filter out. Im looking for something in the price range of 40 to 80 pounds. I plan to keep my u3 ajd replace the u2 with an external one. Please only recomend something if you have one! As noise is very important for me. It must be ultra quiet because noise bugs me and isnt good for the fish.
You should start your own topic, deftuch! :)
You will get a lot more help for your problem if you post your topic here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/9-hardware-do-it-yourself/
thankyou! Rumz :p

I would continue with the Myxazin, 50% daily water changes & redose. As mentioned in the topic Rummynose linked to, I like to use the free disinfectant provided by water suppliers.

I would bet columnaris or a similar bacterial issue. One of the biggest problems with fish meds in the UK is the lack of easily available antibiotics for treating fish without a prescription from a veterinarian. Many of the commonly used antibiotics are the same as used for medicating humans as well as pets other than fish. The ones for fish are available over the counter in the US, unfortunately this is not the case in the UK.

A good example of this is one of the most common starting points for antibiotics when medicating fish in the US; Maracyn & Maracyn II. Maracyn is erythromycin, dosed at 20mg/gallon, for gram positive bacterial issues. Maracyn II is minocycline, basically an antibiotic in the tetracycline family, dosed at 2-4mg/gallon for gram negative bacterial issues. These are both available over the counter, at nearly any LFS, unfortunately in the UK a prescription from a vet is required for the same.

Thank-you for your repl6 am glad to know I'm on the right track with her

 Urgh not holding up much hope for this little girl!!!

Shes still with us but her breathing seems to be getting faster, shes spending more time at the surface breathing, theres now another white section behind her dorsal fin and she has got white stringy poo (she also hasnt eaten for 3 days now) :(

I hate not being able to cure her! What are her chances of getting through this? or is it about time that i think about buying some clove oil for her and doing the kinder thing???

I think that is something only you can decide. But my thoughts were going in that direction too when I was reading your first sentences.

She seems to want to live, she has always been my strongest fiestiest female - urgh this is so hard, i think i will give it one more day, try Tolaks method and see.

Shes still alive, this girl is tough, I have done a water change, adding salt and then the declor and Myxazin.

Shes stillnot eating but I owe it to her to try!

Have you tried her on something like blood worms? My ill boy gobbles them up even though he doesn't feel like moving much :(

I only have freeze dried ones n she doesnt seem a fan, I guess I could try again.

I am rooting for her!

This morning she is still with us - just! Shes floating at the top of the tank breathing quite deep and fast, ive put a glass in for a little ledge if she gets tired. The big chunk she lost looks a nice pink colour and the bit on her back doesnt seem any worse, her poo seemed the becoming back to a normal colour but she still hasnt eaten anything yet.

Poor little girl is trying so hard to survive.

I'm so sorry beanz8! I feel like crying now!

You weren't the only one, i really tried to save her but the #41#### stuff had got too far - i'm kicking myself because i now know that for a while she was showing the initial signs (cloudy spots on her fins) but i didnt know they were the issue - she put up a good fight though - sources ive found state that death occurs 48-72 hours after the white film appears - she put up 120 hour fight - but that wound on her back was very severe!

I an really not having much luck with Bettas she is the 4th out of 7 i have lost in a year :(
