Hello, Need Advice (quiet Urgent)

try asda then, or give whoever you got the tank off a call and see if they just forgot to give it to you.

also post an urgent message for any members in brighton - they may help if there is anyone.

nope, i phoned her daughter and the original (sadly de-ceased) owner never used it.

i'll post a message, but if the original owner never used it and the two kissing fish are about 5 years old and have been surviving all this time i think i'm going to have to just put them in (which i'd hate to do from all the reseach i've done) and go out and get some from the pet shop tomorrow

Put them in, its not ideal but its the best you can do atm,
What condition is the filter in? I presume that this has been turned off a few hours by now? which is going to be cause a bigger problem than not having a dechlor

i had too. the kissing fish were beginning to list in the bucket so i had to act. i'll get some tomorrow, filter was only off for about 1 hour all told and was only out of the tank water for maybe 25 minutes so that shouldn't be as big an issue.

i need to buy something to get rid of snails either another fish or something more chemical, any suggestions? iirc the previous owner had a sucking loach(???)

and he seemed to do an alright job.

Lol a sucking loach won't touch snails

What you need is a lettuce leaf

haha, ok, i suggested sucking loach because while the previous owner had one there were considerably less snails... i researched the nitrogen cycle not fish i was putting in

Many dechlors are made to do lots of other things these days. Are you sure its not one of the bottles you have but you're just not seeing that function in the list of things it does? You could list all the bottled products you got for the members to see...

no, the only two cans/containers i have are fish flakes and mineral salt, i looked through everything quite thoroughly.

they're in there now, the shark seems quite happy, the kissing fish are still a bit listless but have swam to the top of the tank and moved around a little bit so hopefully i wont find them all dead in the top of the tank in the morning >.<.

I know its not one of your most pressing concerns at the moment with you having to set up the tank and getting the dechlor you need etc etc BUT

I'm presuming when you say 'kissing fish' that you mean kissing gouramis? are they a pinky colour?

Anyway if they are kissing gouramis then the tank won't be big enough for them, they will soon outgrow it, also the tank isnt anywhere near big enough for silver sharks, they grow over 12" in length and require a 125 gallon tank.

Just a bit of friendly advice

i know, i know, but like i say, i inherited it from a deceased family friend who i think was given some inaccurate advice from the pet shop. my intent once they've gone is to have a planted tank with much (much) smaller fish like tetras.

and yeah, they're a pinkish colour. and about 5 years old. the shark is new (unfortunately) she's had i think 3 over the last 6 or so years. and they never got bigger than the pink fish due to various (sometime unfortunate) circumstances.

rest assured they aren't my type of fish and i really wouldn't have got them myself.

tank definitely is a juwel 125 by the way, I found the manual

It probably a rio 125L tank, same as mine.

The sharks and gouramis will be ok in there for a while its just in the long run that you may come across problems.

They are quite nice tanks, the jewuls, I'm after a new 450L corner jewul tank soon

yeah, that's the one, funnily enough it was the one i intended to buy when i eventually got round to it so i'm very happy about the tank (although i'd like a bigger one i live at home still so it's the biggest i could really accommodate.)

I assume that your concern about the filter is due to the bacteria housed within being lost... but my, admittedly very limited, understanding is that the chlorine in the tap water will kill the bacteria anway... will vincentclive not just have to start an 'in-fish' cycle as of fresh?

you're right as far as i can remember (in the rush i forgot that :()

off to the petshop tomorrow morning with a big list (dechlorinater/API master test kit, and then off to buy a proper thermometer and a brush to clean the tank with etc etc etc), i really am unprepared i know but i was the only one to offer the poor little sods a home and i didn't even know i was getting them until about 6pm *sigh*

well, they're back to their normal level of activity, here's a picture (albiet a terrible camera phone picture) of Pinky (Perky is just out of shot) and Lenin, full points if you know where their names are from:
