G'day! :good:

I had about 29 guppy fry all from different drops and fish. I finally set up my new 78litre tank and babies loved it...lots of place to hide and currents to swim...until new adult guppies were introduced and I noticed my babies were becoming even harder to find in the tank....not because they were hiding but because they were slowely but surely being eaten. They are now in a net for breeding & raising. There was one little fry who had her tail chomped on and I was sure she would die due to being only a few weeks old...But amazed to notice tonight that her tail seems to be growing back. Just wondering if anyone has heard of such a thing?

Im stumped...Would be interested in hearing some different opinions...Cheers :good:

hello,

guppies are the worst fish for eating there own fry! but in most cases fins and tails grow back as healthy as ever! you did the correct thing seperating the fish! make sure u dont put them back in the tank untill there a good size (and 2 big to fit in the guppies mouth haha)!
a friend of mine had guppies and there fry was eaten by the bigger ones! but tails are usually mended with due corse! just keep her away from the bigger fish untill shes fully mended )

Hi Leanne Thanks for your reply... Babies are doing really good...My oldest guppy fry sexybabe is now the size of an adult female guppies body...But Im playing it safe...She was my fisrt ever baby and the only one that managed to hide away from big fish in the tank before she was saved by my partner. They are so interesting to watch develope due to colour and it being a surprise. Specially in the male guppies. Started this guppy thing about 6 months ago,,,, only ever owned a very large oscor and that was years ago...I had a huge tank sitting there from breeding rats...someone wanted to get rid of this fish...I agreed and was amazed when I met him...He was HUGE!!!!! My dogs got to him though when he jusmped out the tank one day...!! Sad really. Appart from that I have only ever kept fish in a round glass fish bowel with no filter......So its all kinda new to me...but cant believe how fast Im learning..Im often supplying my lfs with new info they didnt know themselves.

I love fish,,,, even though they are cold! Humans can sometimes be colder!
