Good 10 gallon inhabitants for kids

I love my tetras. The serpaes are very pretty and bright with their red color. He should be able to put 5 or 6 in there with no problems and they would be happy. I also love pristellas. I think they are beautiful but they may not be colorful enough for a 5 yr old.

Zebra Danio's sound perfect, very active, as hardy as they come and should work a treat! Can be fin nippers though, bit of a risk with Cardinals.

Bala sharks need massive tanks, so no way even a baby for a 10gal.

Yeah, hope that was a joke....lol

Tank to small for barbs as I wanted some and mine in 12 uk gals my smallest tank.

How about some Phantom tetras. Sort of black and white with cute fins. Zebra like. :)

White cloud minnows are colourful, cute and hardy too.

Whooops my bad. Didn't think of the size when I said that.....er I mean... it was a..... joke.....yes... :*)
Perhaps over-population would be a bigger problem!
I respectfully retract my guppy comments. The small catfish idea is probably good though (or glass shrimp given tank size) since I doubt a 5 year old girl will want to/be able to clean alge without stressing the fish to breaking.

Maybe some mixed tetra's, Serpae and Phantom's are a nice combo, just a thought!

Female bettas!

Or...a single Wimple Piranha B)

Or...a school of neons and cardinals

Or...tiger barbs, I know they get big, but they should be fine in a tank that size if you get 5 babies...mine grew full size in about 3-4 months.

DB :fish:

SWORDTAILS. My 3 year old cousin has 2 and he hasnt managed to kill them yet in the 3 months he has had them

FYI - the bala shark comment was in response to someone else's. ;)

Thanks for the excellent suggestions!
Keep em coming if you think of others.

We're going to go cruising the fish stores here in town and see what they have that you guys have suggested. I'm NOT going to ask the folks who work at the stores what to put in tanks cuz they always seem to give horrible advice. I trust y'all over them.

I'll come back and post if/when we come up with other things that might work. run em by ya!
