Good 10 gallon inhabitants for kids

OOoOoOoh - I just read an article on yoyos... they look JUST like zebras.
And they seem like mystical little things :)

Well now that I know they only get to 2 inches I want to go get one! :D Let's hope parents agree to give me money from working over reading week rather than take it all for the school fund.

Is it sad that I'm more excited about fish than school?

...

No.

Hi BettaMomma :)

I hope you don't mind if I comment on the idea of taking a child to the lfs to select her own fish. -_-

Personally, I don't think it's a very good idea. I've seen too many kids crying because "love at first sight," has set in and they are heartbroken because they cannot have a fish that is totally unsuitable for their tank. :-( It seems like a frustrating experience for the parents too. :X

If she might want a betta or a dwarf gourami, it can work with a few corys for the bottom. The corys are active and fun and the betta or gourami is pretty. Corys must be kept in a school, but 3 would be enough, and albino C. aeneus are bright and playful. :D

I went through my closet last month and decided which clothes I could live without -- then took them to the resale shop and waited and waited until....
Yesterday - I had earned enough from selling my clothes to go get Amos the 5 gallon tank he's been wanting for so long.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford gas to/from work or dinner til a week from tomorrow, but who cares!!??! Amos will be happy!

I do really like the yoyos.
Thanks for the suggestion!!

lol more excited about fish then school, thats what happens when your a tff- ahloic. Yoyo loaches should be in a group of 3 I think though.

You're not the only one sacrificing food..

Half my grocery money for last week went to buying my new crowntail. :) And if I get money tomorrow I'm getting the yo-yo loach and a superdelta. And groceries with whatever's left!

Inchworm - I was afraid of that exact same thing, but unfortunately the dad already told her she could go.

BUT - what we decided to do is this: I've been taking all of your suggestions (everyone from this board), finding a picture of that particular fish species and emailing them to him so he can show her what her options are before we get to the store. Plus, she's a kid who is really an adult trapped in a little kid's body. She's a very intelligent little girl and I think she's really level headed so I think we'll be okay.

It's ME that's going to have to be dragged out of the store because I want a firefish goby in the WORST way. :shifty:

lol that is what happens to my paycheck. I go to the lfs for a plant walk out with more then just a plant. :) I found out yoyo are alright by themselfs or so a site said.... but they gave me that they got to 3 inches. Anyways they stay small. :)

The LFS only has one! At least, they did when I was there Saturday.

All the sites I just checked said they can be kept alone, but a group of three or more would be preferred.

..I hope one'd be okay. Cos now I really want one!

I don't know if anyone has had bettr luck, but I had a few blackskirt tetras, and they were awful! They literally ate my poor female betta alive :grr: (and took their time doing it, apparently). Turns out that they are aggressive when not kept in large groups. Just my 2 cents though.
