well, my sister gave me 4 goldfish for my tank, and she sed one fantail has layed eggs b4, and now one fantail has been going into a ordiment that i put in there for them, it stays in there for a while, and then the shubunkin goes in there and shakes :S like mateing kinda way ... what does this mean??

from what i remember when i had goldy's in my pond they dont lay there eggs in clusters they scatter them and the male swims along side the female shaking and fertilising the eggs as they go not sure what you wanted to know though
regards scoti :good:

Yep goldfish are egg scatterers and lay eggs among the plants. If the fish is hiding in a cave or some other object then it is probably stressed out. Fantails often get bullied by comets and shubunkins. These fish are more streamlined (having only one tail) and this means they can chase the fantails around and not get as tired. The fantails get stressed and often hide. It is preferred to keep fantails or single tailed goldfish, rather than combining both types in the same tank.

When goldfish mate the male chases the female around and the male puts his head inbetween the female tail, she then drops her eggs. Like already said though, fantails and one finned fish should not be kept together and what you thought was them getting friendly was really the failtail getting beat up!
