Full-On Overhaul Journal

It looks very nice! What do you want the tiger lotus to do? Grow tall or keep it short? I think it would look nice in the foreground in the curve of the wood, on the left hand side of the hole in the wood.

It could also form a focus point but then you need to let it grow taller in front of the inlet. Like following the angle of the wood from left to right upwards and just there where it hits the pipe.

:good: I think that helps..I'll group it together more and see. At least I know what DOESN'T look good. :)

Someone mentioned snails going out of the water when the quality is bad, so now I am worried about my betta and it's tank. I do 50-60% water changes there because it's a smaller tank, the water should be fine.

Snails generally need a gulp of air now and again. Unless all your snails stay at the top, no worries.

I was thinking of using it as a focus point for sure...I love the way this kind of plant looks when taller. It is placed now to grow up in front of the black filter intake, that filter won't be there anymore in 2 months. I do need some plants in the front...The odd shape of the wood is battling me for ideas.

I may have to keep trying different things, when I start trying to plan out a layout, my brain goes wonky. I am more creative hands-on.

Thanks for the ideas...I am about to change some betta water in case there is something going on with the snail...while I have towels out, I'm gonna adjust some micro sword and test out a thing or two.

 :hyper: Nothing like going arm-pit deep in a fishtank on a hot day.

That's right more PICSSSS!!! Daytime phots suck, but I'm so excited. I'll take some good ones soon. Here's what I did, I got inspiraed by the comments. I took out the terracotta, and the white rocks. I had some reddich rocks in a boz all scrubbed so I used two of them. I have some java moss on my window sill so I might attach it the the rock on the right.

Is this better? I do like to be able to see some sand in the front, but it was too bare before. Thanks so much for your thoughts and suggestions.

Now if this tiger lotus would grow up, I might really start to have something.

I am putting on a black background later.

Looking good :good:

And will look even better with the black background :hyper:

:) I have velcro in the four corners so background changes take up 2 seconds. I need a couple good bunchs of Bacopa to add in the middle. Its growing to slow for me to propagate my own.

My anubias flower bloomed. :) I didn't get a close up today, I was focused on the tiger lotus. Here are two pics of where the tank is today. I think I should take out the wood on the right and plant something there to grow in next to the lotus. Not sure what at this point.

 Thanks. You just had to say that cause I was nice in your thread. I'm learning plants in this tank. :) Would like it to be an actual scape, but I may just let it alone and enjoy it. I have a larger tank with co2 that I'm planning on starting over and doing a large scape in now that I know more.

:( I removed the anubias flower, I had to trim the leaves I damaged and the flower was looking worse for wear at the end.

I looked on your thread because of your comment but the praise was genuine it really is a lovely looking tank and I think it will look superb when it all grows more. Its so addictive this isn't it!!? have spent way to much on things for the other tank!! hopefully I will get it how I want it to look so I can save some of my hard earned cash!!

are you going to do another journal for the other tank? would be cool

Jay

lol I was teasing. I really do appreciate all the kind comments here. I have had some really bad luck with some sick fish I bought and it's been a nightmare trying to get them healthy. My plants were the only thing I had going right.

My other journal is annoying, even to me. I droned on and on about every little detail. I'm scrapping it and when I do a rescape I'll start one then :)

Truly amazing tank fishfanatic - you say you're learning! Wow I wish I was this good. Hope you don't mind if I borrow some ideas for inspiration :)

TY!! I really am learning. All the plants go in healthy, it's in the keeping them alive and looking good that has the biggest lesson :p

Borrow away! I borrowed all of my inspiration from other planted journals  We can spread the seeds.

For Everyone who has answered my endless questions and been supportive :thanks: .

If you have seen my posts recently you will know, I had bought some very sick fish. All of my tanks were contaminated as the fish were intended for separate tanks and it was a highly contagious parasite. They began dying 3 days after purchasing. We have not figured out exactly what it was killing my fish, even after I had spoken with quite a few experts. I do not have a place locally that can do a necropsy.

The secondary infections and disease that followed are much worse and it has become impossible to control. I cannot treat the secondary problems and the parasites at the same time, and it has become a depressing battle. We have decided to start over. Too much suffering in my house, we respect all living things and have to end this chapter.

We are tearing down our tanks, one by one, and doing a full scrub down with a mild bleach solution. That includes my filters, substrate, and PLANTS. If you have any advice on going about the sterilization of the tanks PLEASE let me know. I don't want to lose my plants after losing so many fish.

Wish me luck please on the restart, I plan to go about it in the most positive way possible and have a little fun with the rescapes. :fish: :fish: :fish:
