Love your tank, I really want to get galaxy rasboras.Been buggin my lfs to get them in.Btw watch those nerites as they dont do well in a ph under 7.0.They really do best in very hard alkaline to brackish water.I'm just saying as a snail death would probably pollute a small tank quickly.

Thanks for the compliment and the warning ~T~, much appreciated.

No probs man, I would also think adding more shrimp will help out with the algae alough I'm biased as I love shrimp. Some red cherries would look great in there amongst all the green.

We have a problem.
Seems as though I have BGA, and its smothering some plants
The water also has a hase to it which i can now see is due to very, very small algae hairs in the water.
What can i do? Ive done nothing differently. Im thinking that I should be adding some nitrate?
Help appreciated.

Id get some more fast growers in the tank. I had my out burst of algae two weeks ago in my nano which has now pretty mcuh disapeared with water changes all be it only hair algae not BBA. Is the tank currently cycling?? As this could also be part of the issue i guess.

Hope it all works out.

Cant fit any more plants in there. 100% of the substrate is planted. Maybe some floating hornwort.
The filter has been running in another cycled tank for 2months.

Thanks for the help Darren.

There are two option,

1) 3 day COMPLETE block out of the tank, turn the CO2 off.

2) Macaryn antibiotics.

Thanks Sam will do one of those. Where can I buy Macaryn by the way? What can i do to stop BGA coming back? Prevention is better than cure in my books. Should I be adding nitrate?

Just a heads up that most meds will kill shrimp so if you dont want them dead you should move them somewhere temporarily.

Actually wont Macaryn kill your filter bacteria?

You may be right about the shrimp but I know its safe for the filter bacteria as i heard it somewhere and Tom Barr didnt comment that this person was wrong.

Just read JamesC's algae guide and im going to try what he says.
Wish me luck!

no Macaryn is safe .used it in my tank two weeks ago and all was well
:good:

Good luck with the BGA! I am looking foreward to seeing a quality nano with Galaxy Rasbora in it.

Do you intend carrying on with the TPN plus some KH2PO4 when you get the tank reset?

Thanks Dave.
As am I. I want to snap some good pics too with the soon arriving digital SLR camera.
Im using the Tropica Plant Nutrition as ferts. Tropica Plant Nutrition for ferts and powders for KNO3 and KPO4 is better IMO. I will definetly be using KNO3 from now on. I dont know about the KPO4. Ill see how things go and if its needed then it shall be suplied.

3 day black outs never worked for me-looks good for a few days and then comes back. Maracyn works a dream, never came back, but the photos are not conclusive though.
