Found A Forum Using Tff Profiles

It does not matter if the people here got there information elsewere, if members plagerized there profiles then the individual members are to blame, and I'm certain that william would delete them if it came to his attention. However, if all of the profiles on this forum were plagerized then its a sign that someone over there running that forum has done the plagerization.

Petty it may be, but so is getting prosecuted for dropping a cigarette end and I'm not complaining about that. Copyright is copyright, if they are going to chav our info they should at least do it in a subtle way.

The authors do have to actually get them copywrighted in order to prosecute, and they need to prove that they were the real authors, lots of bucks, in the US atleast.

I have notified UKHost4u.com as well.

I don't mind spending some time harrassing these thieves if that's what it takes. They can choose to spend time cleaning up their boards or writing thier own content. It's up to them.

:good:

The debate about whether they posted copyrighted material is pointless. They did. Any information you post on this board is now the property of William, TFF, and Invision. One of their rules at Aqua-Forums state:

"You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.

SO, any material found to be from another source (including TFF as a bulletin board), not properly labelled such should be removed as a matter of their own policy.

hmm. If the profiles are copyright protected property of william and TFF then could I post a profile that I wrote myself onto another forum???

Yes. See above "unless its owned by you". So whilst it belongs to the bulletin board it was posted on, you are the author of the work, so you canpost it elsewhere.

It might not be particularly watertight, as it were, but my sig clearly states that anything I write is copyright. And that was put in place before the profiles were on this site.

it would be interesting to have a moderators input on this matter, even if it is just to say they are discussing it in their private lounge.

OohFeeshy, I'm not sure if you realise it or not but if you read the rules in the profiles forum you may notice that signatures are not allowed, Anna aperently spends mroe time than she would like too cleaning out signatures

If CFC, who wrote in the Oddballs section rules-

'Rule 6: Please switch off your signature when posting a profile (unclick the enable signature box) '

Can write a profile in the same index forum with his sig on, I'm sure no one is going to be too bothered. Whether its allowed or not doesn't matter, I think my sigs are still in the posts, I can't remember, so it was definately visible, even if the theif did have to click on my name to view it.

EDIT: And maybe someone can tell me why 1 member in particular is using pictures of my fish in their signiture? Ive never said they could, and never posted the pic on here to loss any rights to copy right!
So thats the same thing your all saying regarding this other forum.

What about this, seems to be being overlooked!!

The internet is a place where the usual rules just don't seem to apply. Theft, plagiarism and the like are rampant. The reason IMO is that for starters, the odds of getting caught are slim. Second, even if one does get caught there is very little that can be done about it unless you have very deep pockets. So, what is the average person/website to do about it? The only recourse IMO is to first confront the thief privately and ask that the material be removed. After that, public scorning and embarassment is the next available tool. Usually this works. Next step? Well, let's just say that the internet provides "alternative means" to deal with theives. As I said the usual rules don't apply. I for one have no problem with this approach.
