Flys On Water Surfice?

i've noticed that for the last week i keep getting flys on the surfice of my cycling tank? They are small and seem to just sit on the top of the water - they don't jump, or fly or anything - just sit there?

any idea how? is this normal when fishless cycling?

FYI i can't see any nests etc anywhere?

My dad had some flies on his when he did his fishless cycle, they didn't do anything either and when the fish were put in the tank they ate them. The flies never came back after that lol. Didn't do the fish any harm either, a nice meal if anything

nice, i've been netting them and chucking them out, may use them as live feed for my other tank
