Hi all, have just purchased the Fluval edge as our first tank - got a heater so can run it as tropical tank - just one major question - Is it meant to be so noisy?? Can hear it over the TV! Do we have to have the pump running all the time? Thanks x

Hi, Welcome, yes the filter needs to be running 24/7,

How high is the waterlevel? and did you fill the filter up with water before you turned it on?
General they shouldn't make too much noise

The filter will quieten after a little while, the noise will be trapped air.

If it's still noisy after a day or two, clean it out. If it's still noisy, it's faulty.

Thanks guys, will see how I get on after a couple of days - be on here to see what fish to buy next!

Please read about fishless cycling it will take 7 weeks not 7 days as the pet shop will probably have told you

Welcome. Love the look of those and was interested in getting one. Post back here with noise issues. Don't want to get one if it's too noisy.

Nice try not to overstock though, I saw them at pets at home for 100 quid but not very big but nice looking

I just bought the fluval edge 2 days ago and it is running fine. I was actually surprised at how quiet it was. Try filling up the tank all the way if its not. Also if you have an airstone, make sure its not underneath the filter intake as that will make it very noisy.

Thanks for advise, the source of the noise was the lid of the filter, it was making a huge noise as if vibrating. We are running it without the lid for now. It is still making a bit of noise as if the filter is vibrating. Will see if it improves when we start changing the filter inserts etc. On that subject does anyone know a decent website to get the filter inserts, having a bit of difficulty sourcing them.
