JD I love the theme of your tank, class m8, looks great with the fish swimming round in it now, so can't wait to get some myself. :good:

Thanks! Its great to get some life in there..are you in cycle mode then? If so, patience is a virtue; hope you are there soon!

Sorry, missed your previous post! It might pay you to copy what you've written and post a new thread...otherwise the guys who have been at it for years may miss your questions if you have any! I am a newbie at this cycling so will defer to their opinions and advice - OK mate, I'm not trying to fob you off but want you to get expert advice!!

Good price on the 4-footer BTW! :good:

Really like your tank :) The dark part of me that huddles in vampire and slayer novels is coming to life in there. My fav. books are actually a vampire executioner who raise the dead :hey: You've done nicely with the theme.

blue LED's off ebay I think - string of 48 siliconed in a circle to the hood - gives a great moonscape and seems to bring out the catfish

Yes its frogbit, and its doing well! Starting to sprout baby froggybits; just hope the fish behave and leave the stuff alone...they happily trim the roots but the plant responds with new ones; ongoing battle it seems. I want half the tank covered so looks promising so far...

Water parameters are stable in the tank, with no trace of ammonia or nitrite after a weeks stock in.

Looking for a pair of Thorichthys ellioti or aureus to finish the stocking for the tank...guy at Maidenhead Aquatics is expecting ellioti's and he reckons he's going to look for pairing off and hold a pair once formed for me, as long as I wait a few weeks; if he does so, what a star geezer...save me having to buy half a dozen and then return 4!

Plugged in a 3000lit/hr powerhead today...certainly got the Ilyodons moving! Just leaving on for short periods, they seem to enjoy it...caught one of the thoracatas out as he surfaced for air!

Looking good, JDs4me.

Do the frogbit move around alot with the surface flow?

Dean.

The powerhead is about 30cm below the surface and has set up a circular motion in the frogbit...seems happy enough, no turbulence at the surface but a good current mid-deep

I'm considering getting a powerhead. Want to make sure there are no dead spots with the co2 and a higher turnover since I've only got the standard internal filter. They're not all that expensive either are they?

Need to check whether lampeye killies are ok with current or not. I'll go and do that now actually.

Edit: apparently Aplocheilichthys normani (norman's lampeye killifish) love a strong current. Know of any going cheap?

Skelly is back in the tank after his head unfortunately fell off...the boys are happy to see him back; just missed a bit of muscle there I think...?

Ahh, he's called Skelly :) how did his head fall off?!

Not any more HMDD, Meldrew fits better! (see your plant thread Flubberlump!)...I was trying to wedge him into the sand and off it came...he now has a far superior silicon cervical disc, although he might find turning his head a little more difficult...
