Ok, I'm not going to comment, even though I am really against Extremeism.

Alright, I can't wait to see pictures!

This idea is irresponsible. A fish is a living creature, NOT a toy and NOT a piece of furniture. If I were your guest, I would call the RSPCA. But then again, I'm an extremist tree-hugging freak...

I think I mentioned this before but if not well here it goes again I will be using the large 1 GALLON soda bottles. 1 gallon is the minimum tank size for a betta. I completely agree with you that a fish is not a toy and not a piece fo furniture but all I will simply be doing is adding a creative touch to something in my opinion and apparently many others opionions too. I got this idea from a PETSMART panthlete that I got in the mail and they had a fish lava lamp that is 1.6 liters, about half of the size that I will be using. They also advertise it with a betta in it. Someone also mentioned that they saw something like this at walmart. Good luck calling the RSPCA as I'm giving a fish something better then what it would of hade if it were put in PETSMART'S lava lamp or if it were kept in those little containers that there kept in at stores.

fish-r-fancy, no matter what your always going to have people that have other opinion then yours. And calling the RSPCA ummm ok. Next time you go any were they sell Betta's take the time to look and see what the Betta's are in, yes a very tiny container. Now what fish-r-fancy is putting his in is a mansion compared to this. If your going to call the Rspca, you might as well go ahead and turn every place that sells Betta's in also.

I know that everyone is always going to have different opionions then me and anybody who does is going to have to agree to disagree with me because I personally think this is a good idea and soo do others but yet there are some thst dn't think this is a good idea. If there were more people that disagreed I would never do this but theres loads more people that do agree.

I could've sworn I've seen something like this before.

There was a webpage somewhere that showed images of irresponsible betta-keeping containers, and I think there was a lava lamp of some sort. Though it was probabaly a lot less than a 1 gallon. There was some other stuff too, like a purse and a donut-shaped tank. Maybe I'll Google it up later.

Dizzied, next time you go to the pet store, Wal-Mart, Meijer or pretty much any were they sell fish look for the lava lamp for Betta's, you'll find them

I won't bother giving an opinion because it sounds as though you've pretty much made your mind up.
My main concern is where you will keep the bottle during the party. Having a 12 year old myself and knowing how boisterous they can be are you not worried that the fish might end up getting knocked over or something worse?

Wow... you just said what I was gonna say, I just didn't want to offend anyone.

LOL, thats the kind of guy I am, I speak my mind if someone doesn't like what I have to say keep scrolling. I'm not going to bash someone or try to offend someone, but I will speak my mind.

I have a shelf that is like 5 feet high that I will keep it on. Also we will make sure that nobody knocks over or touches the lava lamp.

Actually, I have had some quite heated debated with a few of my LFS, and I am proud to say that none (NONE) keep bettas in those horrid little beer-glasses. Every single fish store in my area (4 of them now) keep bettas in proper sized tanks (5+gallons); some alone and some with another breed of fish.

Is this my "fault"? Well, I would sure hope its not just me that complains about animal cruelty... I have threatened a LFS managed to call the RSPCA on a few occasions too; that usually works quite well (especially if there are a few customers around about to buy something...)

Oh yes, and I'm one of the freaks who believe a betta should be in a 3 gallon tank minimum... not a 1 gallon...

Michele

quick edit: no-offence taken. I speak my mind too. I try not to offend, but as English isn't my mothertoungue, at times I manage that too...

I know that several actually most lfs can't afford to kepp all of there bettas in 5+ gallon tanks for several reasons

-they can't afford it
-if they could afford it they would rather spend there money on other things such as food for the bettas and other fish, the upkeep of all there tanks exc.
-takes up more space

Those are just a few of the reasons I'm sure there are many more. I however DO NOT agree with the fact that lfs keep there bettas in such small tanks. What I think they should do is have like a 30 gallon long with a lot of dividers to keep bettas in. They would be able to filter it and heat it for cheaaper then they could those small containers and the temp. would be more stable.
