Fish identification

I could but they live 2 hours away. I saw them yesterday. It was her grandma's fish, they live with her. I dunno how I would bring it up

I wouldn’t be beating around the bush with it. I’d be straight forward and telling them the conditions are appalling

I will. I know the friend well and wouldn't feel bad about telling her but I dont want her grandma to feel bad

Also they dont feed it they treat it as a vaccum cleaner fish :/

You know, just like it's hard to tell a book by its cover, I can't really tell much about conditions in the tank from one photo, except your friend seems to have a bad case of black brush algae. That isn't necessarily detrimental to the fish, though it does indicate an unbalance of light and nutrients. I've had some tanks that looked pretty untidy at times, but the water conditions were good and the critters were thriving. Habitats can look aesthetically bad but be ecologically sound. Ever look at the bottom of a lake? I don't want my tanks to look that dirty.

So most likely this fish is in very bad conditions. But maybe not.

However...Friends don't let friends use clown-puke colored gravel.
