Female Guppy's Tail Going Black.

Hey guys,

I purchased 4 guppies for my daughter 3-female 1-male, I have started a thread about one that has suddenly become very still and sticking to the top of the tank, but I also have this fish.

When I got her she was like the other female's pale peach colour with a yellow tail and blue dorsal fin. but now over past 2-3 days her lower body/tail is going black.

I will attach an image of her, its not the best quality but maybe you can see what section is turning.

Is this normal or do you think the same thing that is making the one fish be still at the top of the tank could also be making this fish turn black? Other than the color change this one seems fine nice and active though I do believe she is pregnant and I think the male may be pestering them all but that is all I can think.

Not sure what is wrong but I would do a water change asap and check your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels.

Looks like secondry colours are just late coming through.

Welcome to the forum Cezz.
That is a very young female and is probably just starting to color up toward her adult color pattern. If all of your fish arrived together, the other females may just be a little later developing their final color patterns. Colors intensify with age and maturity in guppies. Both males and females start out nothing but that silvery color as fry and add in their adult colors as they mature.

If all of your fish arrived together, the other females may just be a little later developing their final color patterns. Colors intensify with age and maturity in guppies. Usually the black is the first colour to show up on my guppy fry. Usually still in their early stages even at 1-2cm.

Thank you, I had considered this it was just so quick she was silver one-day and then the next she was half black, don't get me wrong the black on her looks gorgeous she has the be the nicest of the females though nothing on the male in the tank. It was just the speed of the change and the fact that one of the other females is acting so strange (http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/326025-female-guppy-at-top-of-tank-not-moving-much/) that made me worry.

Thank you, I have checked the levels and they seem fine but I am planning to do a 50% change anyway to see if that helps the other fish's attitude (http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/326025-female-guppy-at-top-of-tank-not-moving-much/)

I commented on that thread too Cezz. BTW the editor has a link feature that you can use so that people don't need to paste the URL into their browsers. You click the symbol that looks like a couple of chain links in the tool bar and it brings up a window where you can paste the link. The word it will be associated with will be the one that you highlighted before selecting the tool like this link to your other thread.

It is no problem for me Cazz. I find that people here often have not found out how to navigate and use our system so I will often put in hints on how to do things.
