everyone say goodbye....

that is soo sad.

My cat died last year just a day before my birthday she was 19 and im 21 i was so upset!
She had kidney failure and we treid everything my mum spent so much money on her.

I really hope something works out for you, and your dad gives in or something

The medicine is probably Rimadyl, it's an excellent anti-imflammatory, and is probably doing her good.

she's feelin better today with that medicine. she's not doin a three legged walk today. she's still limping pretty bad, but she still acts happy and everything. i don't think she likes the fact that now, when she does her thing outside, she's gotta come right back in. she didn't want to listen to us when we told her to get back in the house. and i didn't have to pick her butt up! she's looking at me right now like "you are so evil....i just wanna go out and play!" just like a little kid. lol.

everyone pray, hope, or whatever! maybe it'll help

I'm Praying and Hoping for her and for you! I hope she pulls through it!

Good Luck I';ll keep my fingers crossed!

I thought about this a lot last night and have formed a new opinion. This dog is nine years old and has lived a happy life. I no longer see the point in having her go through a surgery in order to prolong the inevitable. I tend to be a do-everything-you-can girl, but I also believe in quality of life. If you can keep her happy and comfortable, then I say do it.

I was thinking about this in comparison to my bulldog. He is 2 1/2 and has back problems. We had many options regarding his back and went with daily Rimadyl over surgery or confinement. It will be suprising if he lives past 5, but he is living a normal life and is happy. I would rather see him run and play with the other dogs for three more years, risking injury, then have him confined to small spaces with minimal exercise and being miserable for 7 or 8 years. I think it's ultimately a personal desicion, but you have to look at it in the dogs perspective as to what kind of life you want them to lead. ;)

Oh, poor sweetheart doggy. You've got to try, like someone said, some charities and shelters will help you pay for treatement. We had our gorgeous lurcher x since she was a puppy. She had a stroke last may, she couldn't walk and she was really confused. The vet said she could treat her, but we decided not to put her through that. We thought the kindest thing would be to let her go.

What I'm trying to say is that if your poor little dog looks as though she's in pain, or she looks as though she's giving up, it really would be the kindest thing to let her go. Its also the hardest thing, we would have paid anything to get our Bess right again but it wasn't fair on her. At least you'll have time to say goodbye if she did have to go.

Good luck, I hope she makes a full recovery.

Also, vets will, or should in most cases, make hom visits to put dogs to sleep, but they do charge extra. Its worth it to make her comfortable. I don't agree with the gun idea, I wouldn't like it if my dog had his brains blasted out with a shotgun. After so many years together, your dog deserves some dignity.

men who's dogs were their soulmates used a bullet on farms
it has nothing to do with dignity
not everyone has the money
my grandfathers dog was his son and he used a bullet, then wrapped him in a blanket and barried him in the garden with a beautifully hand carved wooden headstone
he had "dignity"

Since I believe in treating out animal friends as well as we would out people friends I would like you to please be there to pull that trigger if I ever befall a fate that left me with no quality of life.

sadie is still trying her darndest to ignore her leg...act like everything is fine. she just gets so confused when we're trying to tell her not to do something. when i tell her to lay down, cuz she shouldn't be walking, she looks at me like i'm punishing her! so i have to give her treats, and pet her, to get her to realize that i'm not trying to yell at her. ugh....i just wish that she could understand....or at least WE could understand her side of all of this....sometimes the thoughts of her thoughts frusterates the heck out of me!

Poor Sadie!

I don't think that blasting a dog gives it dignity. I certainly would not shoot my dog, I would raise the money to have it put to sleep kindly, in its own surroundings with a needle to it slips away peacefully. Its true, your grandad probably didn't have the money, but most people have the money to kill a dog kindly. And imho, it has everything to do with dignity, your dog deserves to go quietly and peacefully.

well,
life would be boring if we all thought the same
everyone has different opinions or views :flex:

hmm...i have to agree with kitty. i don't think that all poor people that have sick dogs, even have the time to make a fund raiser. if the dog is deathly sick, i wouldn't want it to wait on me to get the money....i'd wanna get it over with.

as for sadie, she still thinks she's a frisky young lap dog.....theres just no convincing her! lol.
