well, she's got torn ligiments, and it costs at the least $600 to fix, which my dad won't pay. i was planning on running her for POTM next month, but it doesn't look like she'll be here that long. my dad says if things don't start looking too much better, then we're gonna put her down. i thought that she was 6 years old. but they found her records, and she's actually 9, and her b-day is on september 2nd.

right now, she's restin up alot, cuz it's gotten pretty bad right now. it's to the point where she won't walk on that leg. well, this could be the end......so everyone say bye while ya got the chance :byebye:

it's been good.

Awwww..........I'm so sorry, steppy104

Maybe things will work out yet. I'm hoping so.

i'm really sorry to hear it steppy. :( its always a shame when people take in pets but then aren't willing to pay to help keep them happy and healthy. she has a bum leg, but she could easily live a number of more good years. i have to be blunt an say that if i was there in front of your dad right now, i'd ask him if next time HE is injured, if he should just be put down instead getting the needed medical attention....... surely youre family can work something out with the vet, some sort of payment plan?????????? a shame.............................. :-(

is your dad aware that putting the dog to sleep will also cost him money??

(MAM tries to be nice and tactful most of the time, but in situations like this, i just cannot hold my tongue................... sorry)

he'd rather get it over with, than to have her go through surgery. the only thing we can do is to try to stop her from doing anything. take her in our own fenced backyard on a leash, don't let her walk around the house alot....and HOPE that she gets a little better....maybe even completely. well, just hope :/

I would think that the vet would do a payment plan as well.
I'm sorry about your dog, I really hope you can work something out. :/

i don't think it's that we can't afford it or anything...even if we did do a payment plan, it would still be at least 600 total. my dad is a figity hick....if any of you know a true hick, then you probably know what i'm talkin about, and you probably know theres no changin the mind of someone like him. it doesn't help that he was in vietnam....makes people bitter.

That's an awfully good reference for someone in Wyoming!

I understand, I just feel very sad for you :(

This is really unfortunate. My neighbor's yellow lab just had surgery for torn ligaments and he is as good as new. Instead of putting him to sleep, could you possibly find an adoption agency/foster home? These agencies could possibly take the dog off your hands and find someone who is willing to pay for the surgery who can adopt your dog.

oh god. i couldn't ever think of her being someone elses pet. she gets SO nervous around anyone when we aren't around. and i'd hate it if no one wanted a 9 year old dog, with troubles...she'd sit in their dirty cages, waiting for someone she doesn't even know to take her away forever...she'd hate us!

I can understand how you feel. Either way you'd be saying goodbye, right? Just keep in mind if you do a little research in your area, you may be surprised at what you find. There are a lot of people who run "rescues" who will foster and care for a sick/injured dog in their home...not in a dirty cage...and i've even heard of some that raise money for surgery/care. I've adopted both of my dogs from rescues such as these and they are happy and healthy dogs. There are some really wonderful organizations out there that can help. Petfinder.org is a great website where you can find these organizations in your area. Best of luck to you, and your family in whatever you decide to do....I know it will be a hard time for you all. :-(
