Ehudd's Nano Journal

Looking good :good:

Those Tunze pumps are great, I have two. Nice and reliable (touch wood) thus far, though the only drawback I've found thus far is that they aren't nem proof like Tunze state

All the best

That's a nice Jeweled Algae Blenny, Salarias fasciatus :good: Will be even better when he's eaten a fill of algae and coloured up

Thanks for the proper name of this fish! I have always had one in every marine tank, i love em!
There is circles all over the glass, he musta been eating all night!

ahhh someone stop me, i keep buyin zoo frags :(

Water is perfect tho.
Ammonia - Nill
Nitrite - Nill
Nitrate - Nill
KH - 8-9
Calcium - (really high) 600ppm

I over dosed, im suprised my KH and PH is stable with that amount of calcium, it will come down.

the red ones look insane! they just need to fully open, taking it time, I got some purples, they are not open yet, they just got into the shop so they are kinda stressed. they are in my holding tank i set up yesterday (full of my mates 2 year tank water and some LR)

nice blenny and zoas?

what salt are you using? you really dont need to dose anything as this stage if your using a decent salt.

agreed, you've got no corals using up calcium and as its so new you won't have much corraline yet, so regular water changes should keep the levels in check if using a quality salt.

i dont know why i dosed it, i just want to make sure im doing everything right, if i didnt need to, my bad :p

Zooanthids are doing so well! im very pleased they are all open, unless crabs walk on em. I prob not going to add to much more in a hurry (if i can help it that is) cos i got a bad feeling nitrate spike is comin, hope it doesnt.

If Calcium runs high while Alk is normal, you end up with loads of Calcium depisits on your heater and pump impellers, that is a royal PITA to get off. I found that the only thing to shift it without damaging the equipment was a couple of hours in distilled vinegar...

Also, Ca being high with Alk normal/low runs the risk of the Ca starting to precipitate out, starving livestock of Oxygen..

If it were me, I'd do a water change to bring the Ca levels back under control and into the normal range :good:

Also, a lot of softies will take up some Ca, so saying that they don't isn't stricktly true. This said, Ca demand from softies is very small, and in most cases they don't need supplimenting, even with rubbish salt like AquaOne...

I bet those Zoas colour up realy well when settled and fully out
