Just how do you guys tell If you have lost a fish? I see a lot of people on here that have the really small colourful fish but with all your plants isn't it hard to see if you have a dead fish? And if you did lose a fish doesn't that put the others in danger of getting sick?
Heavily planted tanks like these normally have a good flow rate so if a fish dies it normally ends up at the front for you to remove. If you notice ones missing, just have a good look and rummage, plants root in quite deep so your not going to do any harm. A dead fish is usually a lot easier to find than you think in a planted scape

Many of us count our fish obsessively. That's how I found I was missing one of mine yesterday. Found the poor (previously injured) thing in my wad of java moss, which I have since removed since it's the second fish I've lost in there.

And when you discover a dead fish, you should always do a water change, as a dead fish releases high amounts of ammonia into your water.

Yea I'm always counting my 12 black skirt tetra and my tank is fairly wide open I need more caves. Also thanks for the tip.

Hey can someone make a thread showing how a Co2 set up works and what the components do, also how to set one up? I think that would be some great information and would make it easier for me to take the plunge.

Here you go; loads of info about pressurized Co2 and written by Slim himself.

If you want to go heavy planted, you don't have to start with a co2 system, just lower level lighting and fertilizers :)

Thanks Livewire:)

Well my 5KG FE has been ordered along with my digital timer for my solenoid AND Steveo has informed me that my custom LEDs will be ready next week. Its all coming together now! Cant wait XD High light high tech here I come

@ greenmumma- I am going to try a Co2 tank for more than the fact I want to go planted. I've been hearing Co2 will help lower my ph levels which are fairly high so any bit helps. Plus I finally think I have an idea of what I'd like to stock in it.

Start a journal mate. That way we can follow your progress and help you along the way:)

Yea I know, and eBay isn't much better at 156$ and that's still before the tank gets filled because I don't think they come full ( I may be wrong ) . So add another 40$ ontop of that plus I'd have to pay boarder fees and and tax, so there's another 40-100 depending on weight.

Looks like this will be a long build haha. Until I can afford everything I think I may buy some African cichlids just so my tank doesn't look blah! I have a friend who would snag them once I'm ready for the co2 anyway.

Sounds like a plan:)
Cant believe the price difference. I just bought a 5kg fire extinguisher FULL for £45.
I would imagine thats about $70 - $80
Unbelievable.
You know you can use the pressurized canisters they use in bars/pubs too if you know anybody with one.
They tend to be pretty big tho.

Well I have my Fire Extinguisher, it arrived today. Final component to the build.
Shall be putting it all together tomorrow. Now its just a waiting game for the LEDs.
Im tempted to turn it all on tomorrow XD
No no I shall wait for the lights and new plants lol

It wont hurt to turn it all on tomorrow. This way you can get an ideal how much Co2 you need to dose to get the level up to where you want it, better to do this whilst you are still running lower light IMO.

Do It
