It's fine, I'm used to him being like that!
I know they're not treated the best, and I am still trying to get them a better tank. 'Tis just a matter of time though till I do.

I know he's a meaniehead >:C lol but it's not like you've chosen to do that. You got them when you didn't know any better, and now your parents won't let you correct it.

Just got back from the LFS, was talking to the lady there and she said that the DP breeder has been having trouble and it could be up to two months until they get their order in  Have no idea what has happened with the breeder as she said "Unfortunitely there have been complications with the breeder and it could be up to two months until we get our next order"
 
So...this may end up being a Betta tank, if I see a Betta that catches my eye before the DP shipment gets in then well, bye bye Dwarf Puffer. LoL.
 
 
I haven't added the Danios yet because I've only just got home but I will do soon.

To check if the tank is cycled or not. They'll only be there for a few days max. 
They're currently in a 5G while I wait until I can get a 55G.

Whoops, sorry for the late update, I thought I had already posted it. Was wondering why there had been no replies *facepalm*
 
Anyway, the Danios have been doing pretty well, and all tests are coming up good, tested today and the results were 0ppm A, 0ppm NI and either 5 or 10 or 20ppm NA (I'm useless at reading that chart).
So, that means I'm cycled
 
How long do you think the tank will be okay for without a source of ammonia? I'm thinking that I'll put the Danios in every weekend until I get the DP so the tank won't uncycle.
 
I also got some Vallis at the LFS, I paid for one and they gave me one with lots of little plantings.

The boat is only in there temporarily because the Java Fern attached to it wasn't doing so well, so I've put it in this tank because it has better lighting
 
I'll be taking the Danios out tomorrow.

Very cool thread!  I can't wait to see your DP when you get him!  I was recently considering a DP tank as well in a 5 gallon.
 
I've never had to "starve" bacteria before, but research shows that they can go without ammonia for a while.  Here are some links with some of the important stuff in quotes:

"...N. briensis cells remain in a state allowing fast recovery of ammonia-oxidizing activity after addition of NH4+ to a starved culture."
"...cultures of N. briensis showed potential ammonia-oxidizing activities of between 200 to 250 μM N h−1, and this activity decreased only slowly during starvation up to 10 days. Within 10 min after the addition of fresh NH4+, 100% activity was regained."
