its sad that you dont think one person can make a difference because you are completely wrong. i guess your mother didnt teach you that i guess youre not the kind of person that stands up when things arent right. but anyways...that doesnt hurt me. it only hurts you.

buying bettas kept in bad conditions will only promote more bettas in bad conditions. everyone here knows it-but sadly people support those conditions anyways (i confess-i fell into the trap. i bought a walmart betta the other day) because the bettas are cheap or cute or whatever.

inchworm- protests are far different from blowing up things. maybe youre thinking of protests like the wto ones. not peta protests. i saw a peta protest not too long ago. they were holding up signs in front of kfc and handing out leaflets. i dont see how people could consider that terrorism.
yes-some people think peta has a bad name and that they solve things by blowing up stuff, but it doesnt really matter because those people wouldnt support them even if they had a good name.

If I had a lfs and you came in and whined about everything id kick you of the store. And one person cant change things like this. And the bettas will always be kept in the conditions NO MATTER if you buy them or not. So if you buy them you will be saving them from dieing in bad conditions, and if you just let them stay there your letting them die. Yes you can tell the ppl. but will they really do what you say? You just want to be right all the time. Sorry but your not stoping the abuse buy letting them stay there. If you dont get that, thats just sad.

you see a betta in bad condition, like water> you leave it there> it dies because of bad treatment > think your helping them buy not supporting bad betta conditions

You not buying them will not make a diffrence. Other people will buy them. And if they die they will just be replaced.

One person can make a diffrence in DIFFRENT situations.

yes I know that. But Im saying how you can save the fish from being abused. But back on topic, it depends on who the people are and where the store is. I think that my petco is good because up the road is a professional LFS. They have mostly all the same fish in them but Petco still wants buissness so they need to keep up with the other store. If there is no other lfs in the area the store probly doesnt care and thats why they have bad and dead fish, because there is no competition.

hey jac, i bet if you've seen the place i went to before, i think it was called "cichlid world" or something like that, you'd praise petco thats how bad this place is....their betta's looked mis-shapen, they were very sick looking....it just turned my stomach seeing these poor things....and all of the tanks were incredibly dirty....i couldn't believe this place!

my petco is right next to petsmart and they dont seem to bother scooping out dead fish, dead frogs, or changing the water often enough. the fish dept. is always a mess because they are floating new bags of fish and they leave the packaging all over the floor. someone will trip over it someday and sue them hopefully. it really is pittiful.
there are also many other pet stores in the area. petco never has as many people in there as the others do. i wonder why...

well so much for my petco. i am just saying the chain in general has had way too many abuse claims and lawsuits against them to be worthy of my patronage. by originally posting this thread, i hoped to open up the eyes of people who dont know about petco s bad history-not to fight with everyone.

well if I see a bad petco I wont buy from it, but I still will buy from mine because it is very nice and clean. Im supprised a store with boxes and stuff alll over would stay in buissness. I bet its roach infeasted ,lol. maybe you could tell the town people or maybe call the police to say that theyre abusing the animals, like on Housten Animals Cops show on Animal Planet. Im sure there are some kind of animal cops near you that would find a solution to what the store is doing.
