Hello folks, I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm a Uni student from Oxford Brookes (the less intelligent one), and for my dissertation I'm looking at general ornamental aquatic keeping in relation to diet and behaviour, seeing what affects they have (or don't have)

If you have time to fill in the questionnaire I'd be most appreciative! Sadly the Internet hasn't formed a way of handing out free sweets yet.

Thanks, Alex :)

Mods if ive put this in the wrong place then please say so :)

You can only fill in the option tropical, coldwater or marine once. I have tropical and coldwater. Also listing every fish I have would take a long time as I have 13 tanks, and the different fish require different foods, so its not as general for me to fill in I am afraid I cant help :(

For those of us with multiple tanks and dozens of fish species, this is difficult.  Perhaps you could modify the survey to deal with different situations?

Byron.

I started to answer your questionnaire and discovered its design will not allow me to complete it. I have had 15-20 tanks up over the past 10+ years. How can I answer your questions based on having only one tank?

Also, people who have a single tank are less likely to have the diversity of fish or do any serious breeding and growing out of fish. If you want the broadest experiences reported in your survey, you actually want people with such experiences to answer. Consider the difference between the answers you would get from a person with many tanks and years of spawning and raising fish vs a person who may have a single tank for a few years and who has limited experience feeding and raising a diversity of fish.

I have tried at least 30+ different foods (more counting different brands of the same type) over the years with my fish, the average one tank keeper may use a few or might even feed just a basic flake all the time.

Fish behave differently at different stages of their life and especially when in spawning mode vs not. Some change their diet over time as well.

I could probably answer most of them but ...

1. I can't be bothered to find a tape measure to measure the dimensions of my tank
2. I also can't be bothered to type in all the fish and...
3. I can't see the point of what will be learnt by my answers .... You say you wish to learn what effects the food has on the behaviour of the fish but you havn't asked that question ... just what they are fed and when. There is no question regarding behaviour.

Sorry to be so blunt but I think it needed to be said

I completed your questionnaire earlier, and agree with the previous posts that there are some methodological shortcomings to be addressed. For me, the biggest problem was that all of your questions presume I only have one tank.

I'd be curious to know what your hypotheses are. What are you specifically trying to investigate in your study?

Thoughts noted, most of the unfriendly questions have been edited for those with more than one aquarium to be answered. A couple haven't been changed as I need the results from those that have already been answered.

And don't worry tough lovin' never hurt nobody!

Hey folks, sorry the bump, I just need 5 more replies so any help would be most appreciated please! :)

Thanks, Alex.

Thanks! Was less multi tank friendly to begin with, unfortunately changing some questions deletes the data so decided to plough forward with it.

Just need one more :D

Survey done.
