Discus Requirments

Hey,
A few of my friends are interested in keeping some discus,
Am just doing a bit of research for them and was interested in how many Gal/Litres should a tank be for a few Discus.,

Hi there,

My own thoughts/setup > to eventually have a nice shoaling group of 6 to 8 adult fish, aim for a 4'x2'x2'. This should give room for decor, a school of tetra's and maybe a few cats for the bottom.

I would go for a big a tank as possible!!!! and then work stocking back from there

You could start a huge tank project and become the English version of the man who builds planted tanks taller than himself

EDIT : More on topic though I found a useful site for you with the following information

"There are 2 main requirements, tank depth and volume. Because of their size and swimming habits, a minimum of 18" is needed for tank depth, with deeper being better. Volume wise, a rough guide is that each adult discus will need 10 gallons of water. Larger tanks will also give more stable water conditions, and taking into account other considerations the minimum size for a discus display tank should be roughly 40 gallons."

depends on the size of the discus but you dont want a tank they will out grow. i keep my 5 discus in a 4'x2'x16'' and they are a good size, but i wouldnt want to keep them in a tank any smaller. i also keep a shole of cardinals and rummys with about 4 corrys. but i do have a lot of filtrations and a uv.
