Discus Problem Again

Clown loach that got put in the hospital tank died :-(

Not a mark on him, still looked full of colour :grr:

The other loach seems a lot better, whizzng about the tank, but obviously missing its only companion, time to rehome it i think. Such a shame, those guys added a lot of personality to the tank.

I am such an idiot

While measuring my new hospital tank earlier to work out a dose for some bruised angels, i decided for no apparent reason to measure my main tank.. to my horror i realised my tanks width is not 1.5ft that i had always thought it was, but actually closer to 1.2ft :shout:

All the dosages i have been adding to the main tank have been based on a 340l tank, when i should have been dosing for 290l, so the random death of the clown loach must have been from the wormer that i obviously overdosed badly, im such an #16#####

Before i go outside and kick myself to death, i thought i would share some pics of my discus finally starting to look himself again:

So the melafix cured the skin growth?

I would not say cured, But it is definitely having a positive effect, the patches were the whitish growths were are almost completely gone, and it is only day 2 of dosing. He is also eating aggressively now.

Seems to get better and better as the days go by. :good:

Infact you can still make out the main blotch to the right of its eye on the first pic.

Still, that's great. I'm a big fan of homeopathic or natural meds.

hehe i kinda like the smell of it, reminds me of vicks vapourub

This med was recommended by a friend again, as i have no clue about treating diseases, in all the years i have kept fish i think i have only ever had two issues before, one being ich, and the other a fungal infection on a plec.

Yeah, I was going to say that; it does smell pretty good. ;-) I've seen allot of positive stuff about melafix. I have some dwarf gourami rescue fish (I have a problem and can't help myself) that I've thoroughly medicated while trying to save them. Apparently melafix is rough on labyrinth fish so I couldn't use it on them. I've become so obsessed with diagnosing sick fish that I am ordering a microscope and some basic dissecting tools.

Hmm i have had 4 dwarf gouramis in the tank with melafix and they have shown no adverse effects at all, actually they were still building dam nests until i rehomed them this afternoon, they did have only 1 and a half day of dosing tho, and the bottle says to treat for 7.

Just thought i would update this post if anybody was interested.

My discus is now perfectly fine, it took a lot of head scratching, changes, and meds to get him back to full health tho, now that he is all right i am now in the process of upping my discus count to 8 :hyper:

I started with eSHa hexamita med which picked him up a little, then used kusuri wormer which i overdosed and killed my clown loachs with, over the next few days i was doing daily 90% water changes while adding melafix, after a few more days he was looking really well, but was still having some off days where he would hide, this is when i noticed white poo and was recommended on here to try a anti-internal bacteria med, i went with eSHa 2000 as this treated a wide range of infections, this seemed to work.

More changes i made was removing the angels, and gouramis, i still have the plec but intend to also rehome him and switch to several corys to keep the sand free from uneaten food, i removed several plants from the tank that looked like they were struggling and replaced them with easier to keep plants (cabomba), i also took a lot of advice from another site that is dedicated to discus, and now do daily 60-70% water changes and keep my substrate pristine.

Thanks for your help :good:
