Hey all, another quick question!! I am buying 2 discus soon and really dont want any babies, so am wanting to get 2 males. I am also buying the discus' from a young age. Can anyone give me some sort of guideline of telling the difference of gender in young discus????? Thanks SO much in advance. Alex :good:

Actually there aresome guidelines that may help your chances. So long as they're not very young.

GREA,T thanks ALOT, anything to maybe give me a slight idea!! :good:

Are you planing on only keeping 2 discus?

Chances are you will not get fry unless you try. Discus ae not easy to breed and often eat eggs. If you keep them with other fish the fry will get picked off. So being worried about discus fry is nothing to be conceded with. Mine spawn but they never hatch.

Yes just the 2, and thanks thats good to know!! I will most definitely not be trying for babies and if they do 'present me' with some, i wouldn't know what to do with them lol!! Other than give them to my LFS. Anyway thanks alot for your post, it is very helpful to me!! :good:

I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me when I saw you shouldnt keep less than 5 (i think its 5) discus, because of aggression issues? They need to build a hierarchy and wont do so with just 2?

Interesting, i've never heard that before, but still interesting!! :)

Unless they are a breeding pair in which case there won't be bullying as they'll have nothing to compete for so long as they're well fed.

Oh dear just read whole post again, 5 mixed or same sex or a pair, otherwise not worth it tryst me.

ah i didnt think of that. arent they really hard to get to pair though?

Not really, mine paired so fast it was scary lol, wondered what they were doing at first lol.

Really you never heard that? You might want to do more research because it is true. Discus are social cichlids they like to be kept with each other but they are cichlids so they can get bossy and mean.

Get a breeding pair just don't raise the fry. If you do by some miracle you get fry to grow up with out trying i am sure you will find it a home. Its best to get 5 or don't get any.

Ok, i cant get any more than 2. Therefore i will most probably have to get a pair.
