Demm's 55g

well there are spots of the coral coming out, and they are getting closer and closer, so maybe they will join?

Your coral doesnt look like it mats like that though?

Heh, too small to really tell if it encrusts or plates yet Chris :). Could be a porites. My only other thought is Pavona, although I've never seen a color morph of pavona like that

Got my HOB Fuge today. 24inches long, and 13 inches deep (bottom to top)

lol $5 fans from walmart! i just mounted them on the walls and am fanning both sides of the tank. i used to be at 84-86 degrees in the tank, i have now dropped to a constant 78-80. gotta love it!

Well horrible horrible news...

I walk in from work, the first thing i always do is check on the fish, every single day. Well yesterday was no different. I went and check on them, everything was all fine and dandy, everyone was happy. I just fed them yesterday and everyone ate like they always do, like pigs. So i watch them for about 10 minutes, like always. i walk out and i go pick up a movie. about 30 minutes to an hour later i come home, and i go and check on the fish again...my cardinal is laying on it's side breathing very hard, with big gasps. Well this pretty much tore me up really bad. That was my favorite fish and the one that i've had the longest--almost a year. Even worse i have no idea what even happened to it. my water stats are perfect, there are no hitchhikers in the tank because i have no added no rocks or nothing in the longest time, besides dry rock. Well long story short i put it in a big net where it had room, 2 hours later is was gone. Was very hard to go thru, and as much as it's wierd for me to say that today was very hard at work cause i couldnt keep my mind off it lol...i guess you get attached. maybe it just died of old age? i dunno it was already pretty big, about 3-4 inches from mouth to tail

well today i went out...i know nothing will ever replace him...but i got 2 more cardinals, one good thing out of this situation is that now i have 2 cardinals side by side that dont fight, instead of just one, maybe they will mate and have babies or whatever. i dont know how to tell male and female apart, dont even know if they all start out a certain sex, and then change.

Sorry for your loss Demm, that stinks. As for why, for reasons not well understood, Bangaii Cardinals do not have good survival rates in home aquariums. They apparently do not ship well at all and are prone to mysterious deaths for their first month or two in the home aquarium... If they survive more than a couple months, usually they're hardy and live for decades, just gotta get over that hump,

well that's the thing that makes me not understand it. i had that fish for a year, if not longer. it was doing perfect one day, eating nd everything. then 2 hours after that it was dead just like that.

other 2 cardinals that i bought are doing excellent so far tho. no one attacked them at all, they dont get hassled by anything, and they constantly swim and sleep together :good:

Hello all.

well i havent updated since march. So i thought id take some before and after pictures. I havent really had time to take care of the tank the way ive been wanting to, so there is alot of hair algae and some cyano. but they are looking alot better now then they did a couple weeks ago. so i'm on the road to recovery. i think i might have to change the bulbs on my T5's since i've had them over a year. that might be some of the cause as well.

Not to much has really happened since march. everything grew. i moved to a new place back in sept, i lost my cleaner shrimp and my caggabe leather to the move. i almost lost my blenny, wrasse and royal gramma as well. i was taking the rocks out and putting them into a box lined with plastic and of course those dummy fish hid in the rock and i didnt know where they were. so i was already preparing for bad news, since i couldnt catch them bfore :( tried for hours. so the tank was empty, all my rock in the boxes, and i start to walk away and i hear flapping one of the boxes. There were my poor fish, on the bottom of the box in a tiny puddle of water flapping around. so all 3 of them were saved, and they are still doing fine today! other then the cleaner shrimp and cabbage leather i havent had any other losses.

i did give away alot of corals to my friend cause they were really outgrowing my tank. my giving i mean fragging mostly. also almost all of my xenia is gone. ive grown to REALLY hate those things. i had no less then about 40-60 stalks of that crap lol. they keep growing back and there's no end to them!!!

anyways here are the pictures!

My beautiful aptasia that ive been battling with. i've sprayed it with vinegar. first time it didnt work, now its to smart for me. whenever i stick my hand in the tank its already gone. so its been growing and growing. ive tried to scoup it out but i dont know where the base of it is lol. its been wierd lately...seems like it's been eating itself?? crazy thing...or is it even an aptasia? it retracts like one.

CIMG9873.jpg

wow dont know how ive missed this one. They must be the best green star polyps ive ever seen. Does look like aptasia to me. Nice selection of corals

I love the tank...

The lights are beautiful...

I currently have a 30''inch 29 gallon tank. Does anyone know if I could get my tank too look the same color as Demm's tank? I would love my tank to have that blue color...without having to spend $300 on lights.

I'm not picky at all with the corals I can keep...I'll go with softies if I have too...it's just I want the blueness of his/her tank.

I was going with a Power Compact (2x65watts bulbs)...Would a Power Compact make my tank look like this?

Thanks folks,
